Bricks of the Dead haven’t run guest comic series since August 2012, or over 200 episodes ago. Out of curiosity I thought I’d take a look and see what was going on in the comic back then, and interestingly enough Sam and Abe were discussing Sam’s family. I kid you not, we’ve had over 200 episodes and we’re still in the same place-whats up with that?!?! All joking aside, I think we can all agree that Dave shows an amazing amount of commitment to the site and we should all thank him for that.

This site has played a big part in my ever growing LEGO collection and inspired me to have a crack at comic creation. So I could of no better way to thank Dave than to help him out in his latest our of need.

About This Episode

So this is episode 1 of 6 of Zegoland (get it?!) – I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Apologies for the lack of zombies, they are coming soon I promise! I actually built the subway station a while ago, and only recently added the movie posters – there are some great Lego versions of famous posters out there, I strongly recommend googling it.

Other News

The more I look at the guy on the platform, the more I think he looks like Neil Patrick Harris. I must have been watching a lot of How I met Your Mother when I assembled him because it was totally by accident.

Discussion Question

So running with the subway/underground theme, you are on the platform, and the first sign of Zombies appear. The train doors are about to close, do you jump on the train or make a run for the stairs?

Editor’s Note: I want to thank Mark for putting these episodes together. Not only is this a huge help to me, but I’m also blown away by the quality. You guys are in for a treat. And when you’re done with today’s episode, check out Mark’s Flickr profile for more awesome stuff.

  1. A great start, and yes, love the movie posters 🙂

    • Thanks hvg3 – I’m going to see what other Lego posters I can find for future builds 🙂

  2. Thanks for the kind words Dave – I’m looking forward to reading everyones comments

    • No feedbacks on the story so far but hey… the visual looks so damn good ! I really like the different sizing of the images !

Brings more “life”, makes it easier to be in the story for me (don’t get me wrong Dave I love your stuff but… well just think about it… :p). The 1st panel in wide format… Amazing.

      • I feel that the difference in image sizes does change the visual impact of the comic, HOWEVER – I did this for 6 episodes, and it was an absolute pain. I can understand why Dave does 4 same sized images week in week out as it would take forever to make every episode.

  3. If there’s a clear path, obviously run for the stairs. You really don’t want to be locked into an inescapable metal tube that far underground with a bunch of zombies, do you? Even if the car you’re jumping into is clear, there’s no telling how many may be on the other cars.
Even if there’s a horde of zeds coming down the stairs, you will still have better escape options outside the car than inside – at the very least, more room to maneuver and fight your way to the surface.

    • I understand the theory, but if you’re at the epicentre of the outbreak, jumping on the train might get you far enough away for long term survival. Yes you might have to fight to survive on the train but that shouldn’t be as hard as fighting hundreds on a train platform.

      • I have 2 questions before I answer :
1/ Is it a one man (woman decision) or a group decision to make ?
2/ Do we have time for head or tail ?

Jumping out of the train give you 2 options I guess, exit the station (the stairs) or maybe follow the tunnel… Plan A or Plan B. Staying in the train is only plan A.

        • 1) I’d say you were on the platform travelling to/from work so most likely on your own
          2) The zombies are already chewing on people on the platform, how quickly can you toss a coin?!

  4. Zombies on a subway train track system, hrmm. I wonder if zombies are immune to being fried to a crisp by electrical contact with the 3rd rail? 😀
That would be an enlightened zombie if they could actually survive that, because they’d be glowing like a neon light! 😀

    • My first zombie storyline and the plot holes have appeared already! hahahaha!

  5. This is absolutely beautiful. Wonderful photography. I dodn’t know there would be more episodes in the guest-comics, and judging by this fist episode we really ARE in for treat 🙂

Just wondering, where are the bricks from you used to construct the platform, I’ve seen them before, but don’t have ‘m myself. And what did you use for the suitecase from “Neal’?

Do you run your own webcomic somewhere? You’re really talented!

    • Thanks Foolish Lego! Firstly the blocks from the platform are Mega Bloks, they’ve appeared in a few of the older sets, mainly the castle based stuff or military ones.

As for my own comic strip, not yet, but if this short run goes well I might start one…

  6. If the train car was clear, I would just hop right on in with some other people. If the car was clear and also the stairwell was clear, I would still go for the car. Say you get up the stairs and the apocalypse is unfolding throughout the city, cars burning and crashing and hordes of zombies chasing the last few military and police left on the streets. On a train you group up with the other people and take out the few zombies onboard (if any) while hearing easy listening Muzak… on second thought I’d take the horde 🙂

    • The train might just give you the head start you need, but if you fancy yourself against the hordes, then up to the street it is!

  7. Love the look of panic on their faces in the last panel! Absolutely wonderful! I would say stairs because at least you would be going into the open world, when in a train as soon as one is infected, unless you jump off he train and probably kill yourself in the process, your going to be diner!

    • Yeah they are certainly worried about whats coming thats for sure – although the Mexican guy in the background looks like he can’t wait for the fun to begin!

  8. All I can think of is that the mother and her baby turn into zombies… they have baby zombie heads which is totally cool… also would love to see at least 5 people make it out alive… maybe the wife instead of getting turned into a zombie survives, the two guys talking survive, the biker dude, the guy with Hawaiian shirt and the girl next to him survives… they all go on a journey to survive and yeah… that would be awesome!!! also the guy with the Pepsi could drop it on the tracks, go and get it then he would be the first to die… bwahahaha 🙂

    • Wow – next time I do a guest strip I’m coming to you first, the whole crowd has back and future stories now, I could drag that out for at least 200 episodes right Dave?!? haha!

  9. OK I love the dog and the movie posters. Great details.

Also, run up the stairs. Rather have room to run from zombies than be trapped in subway car with them. Duh! lol

    • But what if only 5 zombies get on the train, while the platform is full of them?! Zombies could be pouring down the stairs – you just don’t know!!!

    • +1 for the dog, in particular next to the motorcycle dude!

      • Yeah I was particular happy with that, nothing like a tough guy with a chiwawa!

    • exactly! lol

  10. Great job on the comic Mark!
I would take my chance with the stairs… Closed places are never a good option during the ZA and you can bet your a** that an evil scenarist is going to add a zombie in the mix to shake things up!

    • I’ve been thinking about this question a little more and I was wondering what would happen if the train driver got eaten – would the train just keep going until it crashed? You could fight off all the zombies on the train and then die in a train crash – which would suck!

  11. Ok so you could go to the train in the comic and show that it there are 4 survivors that are alive fighting for their lives…. you cut to the tunnel and see that another two are still alive fighting… one obviously dies and the other runs for their life but gets tackled and eaten… then we here the growling and the gurgling.. we go back the the people in this comic page and they get attacked by zombies… then like i said before the ones that survive kill some zombies and hears the other survivors screaming for help… they go investigate and find that the survivors are almost overrun but help them out…. they all go through the tunnels till they find another platform… the platform they find has another survivor named Kyle surrounded by zombies holding duel swords… also the names of the other survivors could be called Sophia, Delaney, Jack and Max… ok so as i was saying after they ask how Kyle killed all of the zombies by himself to wich he replies that there were others but they perished during the fight, reanimated and he had to kill them and they go to the surface and…. ill think of more just wait… 🙂

    • PJ – if I decide to start a lego web-comic I’m getting in touch with you for creative ideas!

      • Awe thanks 🙂

  12. Oh just to mention to people I changed my name from PJ to Packard.. it’s my real name 🙂
