Zombie Cliche Lookout: Deathbed Humanitarian

It’s easy to throw blame around in a crisis, and a lot of fun too. What it isn’t, however, is productive. In fact, it can often make the whole zombie outbreak situation worse by alienating the different people in the group. Sure, you might be able to make yourself look slightly better by casting blame on someone else, but they’ll just hate you for it. And when you do that, odds are you’re going to end up needing their help sooner rather than later.

It makes a lot more sense to focus on the problem and how everyone is going to overcome it than figuring out who’s responsible. I mean, you can do that too, but you should probably wait until after things have settled down a bit. And, even then, it’s generally better to celebrate people’s successes than dwell on their failures, especially if you’re trying to encourage people to continue to work together.

About this Episode:

I’ve really gotten to like Brent, even though he’s almost always a huge pain in the ass, so I don’t want his last hours in the comic to be full of hate and negativity.

Other News:

Don’t forget, everyone, this is it for me for the week. Tomorrow I go in for minor surgery to get the the longest screw removed from my leg. I’m hoping we’ll be back to our regular schedule on Monday. In the meantime, keep the discussion going here.

Also, I didn’t sleep very well last night. Let’s see how many typos sleep deprivation causes.

Discussion Question: Dealing with Bricks of the Dead‘s Break?

So how is everyone here going to deal with the next few days without your favorite zombie-themed webcomic made out of LEGO? I’m talking about Bricks of the Dead, of course, not any of those other comics that are also about zombies and also built from LEGO.

  1. A break from BOTD?…Hmmm, well, go for it. Wouldn’t want you to get tired of this and just want to get it done as fast as possible and make it sloppy.

    • Hah, it’s not really a break. I have to take a couple days off for surgery. Maybe I’ll try to do a video while I’m all jacked up on pain meds.

  2. Inez might have a point, and she might also want to consider Brent’s point of view much more carefully while he’s still around to tell it. For very soon, she will learn the true meaning of choice, like her choice of not currently being too close to a handy bludgeoning weapon will mean she has to think fast or become a zombie herself! 😀

    • Hah, well said.

  3. So…wait…does that mean you’re going to get screwed by the hospital? Or are you getting unhinged? Which terminology to use…

“Screws fall out all the time; the world is an imperfect place.” -John Bender, The Breakfast Club

    • Well, technically I’m going to get partially unscrewed. Nine screws in my leg, getting one – the long one that goes between the two bones – removed. So I’ll still be pretty screwed afterward 🙂

  4. Oh, maybe you can become the next “David After Dentist”, the inter-webs just love seeing people messed up on pain meds.

    • Hah, sounds kind of awesome. I mostly just fall asleep though, so it’s not that entertaining.

  5. When going into the post-op phase, remember two things:

    1. Be sure to ask if they’ll let you have the screw, or at the very least a photo of it for your blog! 😉

    2. If they recommend morphine for the pain, do remember that it can be addictive to some people, although I tried it once and it wasn’t really all that addictive to me. 😀

  6. Get well soon Dave!
As for what I am going to do while BOTD is on a break… I guess I’ll just have to sit down in a corner and cry.

  7. I can’t catch all your stuff on a regular schedule, so it’s come, catch-up, and love the comic as usual. Still surgery of any kind makes me cringe due to needles (phobia/ pain) I hope your surgery isn’t scary in any way!

Get well and back to the runs quickly, maybe I will see you at a boilermakers sometime!
