Zombie Cliche Lookout: A List of Complaints

Generally speaking, people don’t just blow up all of a sudden. It’s usually something that builds up over time, and get can complicated and catalyzed by outside stressors. At some point, they reach the breaking point, and let everything just come pouring out. You’ve heard of the last straw that breaks the camel’s back? It’s just like that, only there’s also zombies, so it’s better.

Oh, and if you happen to be the guy who just broke the camel’s back, you might want to do yourself a favor and get out of the way as quickly as possible. Otherwise, zombies are going to be the least of your worries.

About this Episode:

I love this angry boss face, but if Sam keeps this up for too long he’s going to pull something. Or maybe get an ulcer.

Other News:

We’ve gotten some pretty awesome guest strips and fan art so far, but there’s still room for more. If you’ve got any inclination to produce some, please let me know, because I’d love to have it and everyone here would love to see it. As always, if you have something to promote, let me know and I’ll add it to the post with your comic/fan art.

Discussion Question: LEGO Should Totally…

Let’s pretend you were put in charge of making up a new theme for LEGO. It has to have fairly broad appeal, include decent building opportunities, a storyline, and relatable characters. Remember, they’ve got to sell a lot of these, and LEGO’s primary market is children (for some damn reason).

So with all that in mind, what’s your theme? How do you make it playable and offer good building so that it appeals to both kids and adults? How important are story and characters?

  1. Typo alert, Zombie Cliche Lookout, second sentence, “something that build up over time”: build–builds

Same section, second last sentence “straw the breaks” the–>that

    Get well soon Dave! 😉

    • Got’em, thanks.

I’m going to blame these on the pain meds.

      • I see you also got Monday’s typos, all of them! 😉 Those pain meds must be fantastic! 😀

  2. I think Abe should cap that temper of Sam’s and put him into energy production, seems like Sam’s got an unlimited supply just boiling away there! 😀

    • Hah, that’s assuming he can control Sam.

      • I always thought there was a small chance that Abe was in fact some evil mad scientist type of villain and that all of this so far has been setup for the reveal! 😉

        • They’re pretty good, they take the edge off, anyway.

  3. I’m glad Sam is blowing up. Abe is creeping me out.

    • You and me both.

  4. I think Dave is channeling all his leg anger through Sam!

    • Hah; maybe so.

      • *Dave’s in his office, the light of his computer showing his face in the darkness* “DAMN YOU ICE! Abe will pay for your mistakes! Take ’em down, Sam!”

  5. Am I the only one who reads Abe’s lines in a Scottish accent? He seems like that’s what he would sound like.

    • It’s all about the checked shirt !

    • He does have that look.

      • You should have a comic strip where zombies break into a room and the only thing Abe has to fight them off are bagpipes xD

        • Maybe with some bagpipes from hell?

        • Ha ha, yes, Greg!!!

  6. I like when Lego represents period of time. Middle ages are fun sets, my favorites were the pirates, I’d love them to go to western times more than they did (including civil war sets, gold rush,… for example).

Kids should like them a lot and I think adult with special Creator sets (saloon, train station,…) will find interest in too. Should make a great theme for comics or brickfilms though.

    • Castle, pirates, and western. All great themes.

  7. Hi everyone.
I’d like to present my ideas for a new Lego theme. I’m TheBeefThief, and this sounded a lot more like a PSA than I intended it to.

Maybe Lego should start a theme that features on more AFOL-related stuff that also appeals to kids too. Baseplates are cool, but how about detailing to go on them? Frogs, green 2×2 circle tiles, boats and rock elements to go on blue baseplates. Dustbins, lamp posts and signs for grey/road plates. Grass elements, tree models and animals for green baseplates. Maybe a range of instruction booklets to make cool massive lakes, forests, cities and towns with Pick-a-Brick models and these special sets. For example, Lego doesn’t like producing big, dull city blocks like the ones featured in The Lego Movie, advent calendars, etc, as they are too expensive. But if they make instruction kits so people can buy the bricks separate and do it their own way, they could draw in more AFOLs to build larger models. It wouldn’t be too difficult, a city block instruction would be 32×32, consisting of a ground floor, a top floor, and your choice of floors to fit modularly inbetween.

That aside, I have prepared a script for the comics I have begun making while Dave does his hiatus. I’m certain the first draft wasn’t up to snuff as I intended it to be, so I started again. Script first, photographing, nd then editing later on. Is there a deadline, and when is it?

    • The end of the month would be easiest for me, but if it’s a little late, no biggie.

      • OK, Episode 2 of the comic has been edited. Going to produce and send these in batches of threes, if that’s all right.

        • How many are you doing? I have six comics so far.

        • I’m not sure, as many as you need to keep the comic running during the 2-week break, but definitely fewer than 10.

        • Right on; Any that I can’t fit in, I’ll use on the weekends.

And, if I need another week due to my grievous injury, I’ll be covered.
