Zombie Creation: Cargo

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Thursday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

The Zombie Creation:

This week’s LEGO Zombie Creation, “Cargo”, features no LEGO whatsoever. I know, it’s a bit misleading, isn’t it. But don’t worry, because “Cargo” completely makes up for the lack of LEGO by being an incredibly well made and emotionally powerful short film. Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

So What’s Going On?

We’ve got a zombie apocalypse, which is a good start. A family is trying to escape by car, but both parents are bitten and the mother turns and crashes. The father tries desperately to get his baby to safety before he dies and reanimates. That’s a pretty damn compelling plot if you ask me, especially for those of us with kids. The whole time watching the video I kept imagining my little girl in that backpack (my son is almost five now, so he’s a lot more independent).

It’s an emotional gut punch, and it really sticks with you. I originally saw this short many months ago when Greg posted it in the forum. Re-watching it today I found I could recall almost everything, which is quite impressive.

A lot of the strength of this video – outside of the emotional elements – comes from its extremely high production quality. It’s beautifully shot, the sound is fantastic, the makeup affects are excellent, and there are a lot of beautiful little visual touches, like the balloon, that make it memorable. One thing that I really liked was when the father was trying to calm down the baby, he rubbed her foot as he walked. It was only in the video for a second or two, but it really cemented the relationship for me.

Let’s Talk About the Zombies

We’ve got a momma zombie and a daddy zombie. They move slow, and like bags of meat. The makeup and effects are great here, but the zombies really aren’t the focus here.

Have you seen a great zombie creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.
