Zombie Cliche Lookout: Making Noise
A lot of people think they’d be okay in the zombie apocalypse with a silenced firearm, as no one ever seems to own one in the movies. However, silenced weapons are actually still pretty loud. So that would go on my ”List of Mistakes Everyone Else Will Make in the Zombie Apocalypse.” Right next to ”Go to Costco to fortify and live there”.
Discussion Question: Other People Giving Their Input on Preparedness
When non-preppers start talking about what they would do in the ZA, it’s usually pretty poorly thought out. Some helpful corrections from prepared individuals are unwanted, and people continue to make the same mistakes. What people’s survival plans have you heard that you just went :/ to?
This is what happens when your doors are extremely thin. Zombies easily push them down and walk into your living room.
I once heard a plan that some one was going to get a motorcycle and go around the country looting everything they could. Surviving off of food they found and gasoline they gathered from cars or gas stations.
Ha, the original concept was that these two chumps attempted to push the couch in front of the door, only to find the landlord had bolted it to the ground!
And wow, that is a really dumb idea. Still, I would encourage it to people that want to live the life of Daryl Dixon for about about half a week. What makes people think food and gas will be available anyway? 2/3 of our food comes fresh or frozen, and neither of those will last. Gasoline will be in extremely short supply. Last year, just the threat of a strike by fuel truck drivers threw Britain into a minor crisis, so I’d hate to think how we’d last in a Zombie Apocalypse…
The reason I mentioned people not wanting advice & disliking having their plans revised is because ZA conversations usually occur in group chats, and having their badass survival plan pulled down by someone else makes them look dumb. The usual response after this situation goes along the lines of ”Well, it’s not like there’s going to be a Zombie Apocalypse anyway.”
Well, the worst one I ever heard was a student telling me that her plan was to just kill herself. ;-(
Well that’s just kind of sad… everyone has to keep on fighting, but some will just give up due to the stress of the situation 🙁
Agreed. Too sad. You have to keep fighting. Thanks for the reminder right when I needed it. 🙂
Worsed plan I have heard people talking about was they were going to after the apocalypse starts modify an 18 wheeler to be a rolling armoured home and travel the country eradicating zombies.
Myself I am heading to my prep site in the mountains. Got food stores, weapons, ammo, fresh water and a very defensible location. Oh and plenty of hunting and fishing to boot.
An 18 wheeler? Not a good idea from the very beginning. It’s true they are made to travel long distances, but when you consider that most highways and roads will be blocked for the next couple of decades, they will not get much further than a mile. And ‘eradicating zombies’? Another terrible thing brought out by Zombie commercialisation. People think that they can just go out and keep fighting for the rest of their lives, when what they should be doing is hiding in safe locations. When I say that I am quite ready for the ZA, some people laugh and say ”Well, you’ve got the equipment sure, but you couldn’t take out more than a few at once.”
Well I’m not planning to. Your safe place in the mountains sounds like a great idea! Might I suggest adding one or two wind turbines, if it’s ever possible? They are quite expensive, but they provide power for quite a while, and can easily be flipped off if they become too out-of-control for generating electricity.
I’m planning on doing more or less the same thing, but only in the Australian outback. Wide open spaces, opportunity for growing food in small greenhouses, and anything that makes it into the desert, undead or alive, is Dingoe food in a week 😉
The plot thickens… 🙂
It does strike me as a little odd that the ‘guy in white’ gets a gun, constantly walks around with it… and when asked to use it on a zombie… doesn’t want to use it because of the noise (all though he is right of course 😉 )
Looking forward to the twist…
…twist? What twist?
(Looks around nervously)
I guess I could do some comics that follow on from this week’s guest strip and show what happened…
Is the bat still at reach ? I’ll be frustrated if they don’t use it.
Alas, the door fell on the bat. It’s no longer with us.
