Zombie Cliche Lookout: No Time to Plan

When it comes to zombie survival, it’s important to have a plan. But more important still is the ability to quickly and accuratly read a situation and adapt to it. Sticking rigidly to a plan that no longer fits what’s going on is a great way to get killed. Now one should not construe this as advice to simply not have a plan at all. Planning allows you to visualize potentialities and come up with options to address them in advance.

It’s a great mental exercise on your own, but becomes much more valuable when you start involving other people in your group. After all, you only have your own experiences to draw from. The more people involved, the more ideas everyone will have, and the more potential situations you can discuss. Of course there’s a downside to that, which should be familiar to anyone who has tried to get a group project finished up. When everyone is involved, you get all of their ideas, whether you want them or not. And some people are very dedicated to their very stupid ideas.

About this Episode:

I like Gus. Here he is, having already dealt with these monsters, and having lost his entire group as a result, but he still doesn’t hesitate to volunteer to help. Now, part of that is certainly his desire to seek out some manner of revenge, which I can’t blame him for, but he also just honestly wants to help his buddy.

Discussion Question: Bad Zombie Advice

Zombies are such a cultural norm, I doubt anyone under 60 hasn’t had a conversation with their friends about how they would potentially survive a zombie apocalypse. And, with that, they’ve all heard and put forward some truly shitty ideas. Ideas that are impractical, unethical, misguided, or just outright nonsensical. And you know what? I’d like to hear them. So what’s the dumbest zombie survival idea you’ve heard, or come up with yourself?

  1. The zombies cant catch you if you are on FIRE…

    • Tell that to the guy who gets chewed to death by zombies that spew up non-combustible watery goop on their victims before they eat them! 😀

I may have seen that on one of those comedy shows a long time ago. 😀

      • Hah, what?

  2. Typo alerts: ” quickly and accurate read” accurate–>accurately

“plan that no long fits” long–>longer

” but become much more” become–>becomes

A few typos today, not too bad, Dave! 😀

    • Fixed all. Man I really struggle with the endings, don’t I?

    • The first one was an adjective confusion with adverbs, the second one was a negative form of the word being needed instead of what you’d originally written, and the third – I think – was about the singular being used instead of the plural that you needed there.

Generally speaking, you’re struggling with the various forms of the words, but yes, you’re struggling a bit with the endings there. 😀

If you ever have difficulty getting the correct form of a word, pull it up on an online dictionary site and check, it never hurts to find out if what you want is really what is needed! 😀

  3. I do wonder why Gus doesn’t just throw his stuff into his RV and follow them in it, unless it’s the knackered, deceased, kind of RV! 😀

Come to think of it, it looks more like an ex-service ambulance that’s been converted for mobile home use. 😀

    • Yeah, it’s an RV that’s seen better days.

  4. Speaking of packing and leaving, here’s a Discussion Question for those who roam around a lot: How far do you let your packing up instincts go when it comes to stopping somewhere for an outing with family in the family RV? Do you tend to try and minimize the amount of stuff you let the rest of the family take out of the RV for use, or do you tend to just let them take what they want out?

Does this vary depending on the amount of time you’ve got for staying at a particular location?

    • My wife and I are minimalists. My kids want to bring everything. My daughter tends to bring a backpack and a suitcase full of stuff, even if we’re only going somewhere for a few hours.

  5. whenever someone says we have to cure them and ask for you to gather some. It should be past time to leave. It is more than likely they have a stash of various walking bodies somewhere.
