Zombie Cliche Lookout: Hugging Through the Carnage
A big part of the draw in zombie movies is the zombie killing action. People love the gore. They enjoy the carnage. And they really, really love the creative ways people come up with to dispatch zombies. After all, the “Zombie Kill of the Week” was a pretty fun part of Zombieland. It’s all good fun, but it’s never really the focus of the story. The real focus is on the survivors and how they cope with the world gone undead. How they manage to survive in the face of adversity. How they build relationships with other survivors, and how those relationships either help or hurt them, depending on the situation.
With that in mind, you can see how writers have fun juxtaposing emotional character moments with copious amounts of gore. People reuniting and hugging is great. It’s even better when they do so covered in gallons of zombie blood.
About this Episode:
Trying something a little different with the photography this week. Rather than taking the photos from a little further away and cropping in, I’m getting within a couple inches of minifigs and snapping away. They look better in Photoshop, before I compress them for the comic.
Discussion Question: What’s Up with Cheryl
I’m in the mood for some speculation. Why do you guys think Cheryl is here? I mean, it’s pretty odd that, after all this time, Sam should just happen to run into one member of the group he hasn’t seen in hundreds of episodes. Also, the last we saw her, she was hanging out at the cabin in the woods after having run away from the city. So what do you think? What’s the deal here?
Typo alert: “and snapping way” way–>away 😀
There also does not appear to be mouseover text for the comic! 😀
Aw man, I’ve been doing so well lately too.
Fixed.
If I had to guess, Cheryl is out gathering supplies and trying to find Sam, although the latter part would be quite obvious. I wonder who else is out and around?
As for the last time we saw Cheryl, she was in Episode 572, if I’m reading the comics correctly. She’d just told Inez to leave, in the morning with Michael and Joy, and we have no idea what happened next after that.
Maybe it’s possible she’d had backlash from the rest of the group for the decision that Inez had ultimately forced on her, I don’t know for sure as there aren’t any comics to let me know what really went down. And I still want to know! 😀
Hah, don’t worry, we’ll be checking back in on the Inez situation before too long.
Also, Dave, as you have some guest strips in your comic archives now, can you please rewrite the Archives page in your spare time, and add it to the menu? It’s getting more difficult to navigate around randomly trying to hit the right comic, I got lucky early on and hit the cabin story first try. 😀 I don’t know why the Archives link disappeared, but I’d be happy to see it coming back! 😉
It’s on my to do list.
3rd panel is perfect… Not easy to capture those hugging moment with minifigs. Great work here.
So… It’s prediction time… Hum… I’ll say Cheryl went out to find medicine (Yeah I’m playing it safe here, as, you know, she was in a pharmacy). I can’t remember if anybody actually need it back at the cabin, but I guess this kind of resource is always gonna be worth a shot.
Now Let me give my prediction of Cheryl’s next move… She’ll go with Sam to bring the medicine back to Tara, who she actually knows, and they weren’t friends before the ZA…
Ooh, interesting predictions!
That’s an interesting prediction, especially since Murphy would have needed medications or wound dressings. Very interesting predictions indeed! 😀
I was wondering if anyone was going to bring up Murphy and Brent.
My prediction: Cheryl was on a supply run with other members of the cabin crew… they got separated and as night fell she holed up in the Pharmacy.
Oh man, I like this! To be honest, it’s not what I did, but now I kind of wish it was.
Maybe you could alter the dialogue a little to suggest such a thing. 😀
Dialogue’s a lot easier to alter than an entire story! 😉
