Zombie Cliche Lookout: Guilt
Survivors in zombie stories have a lot to be happy about. Namely that they didn’t get eaten by zombies (yet). But then, they also have a lot to drag them down. Their normal lives have been destroyed. Friends, family, and loved ones are dead. They’re in constant danger. I could go on and on. It can get so bad that many survivors often end up envying the dead, or even the undead.
One common emotion is guilt, which can come in many flavors. You’ve got your survivor’s guilt, where people get down because they survived when so many others didn’t. Then there are those who feel responsible for the deaths of others, whether they’re actually responsible or not. That’s a tough one to get through, and it can be made even worse when you get unscrupulous people using that guilt as a way to control people.
About this Episode:
Lately I’ve noticed that one of the eyes on the “Serious” Sam head has heavier printing than the other, which looks a little weird. I was going to swap it out for another head, but the more I look at it, the more I think that it makes Sam look a bit unhinged, and I like that.
Other News:
Well guys, I’m going to be moving soon. The actual move is scheduled for March 8th, but we’ve already started packing up and moving over a bunch of stuff we won’t need right away (books, summer clothes, etc.). So what does that mean for Bricks of the Dead? Well, it means that we’re going to have to go on hiatus for a little bit. I’ll run the comic through February 28th, and then I’m going to have to take a couple of weeks off to move and get settled at the new place. We’ll start back up on March 17th.
I know, it sucks.
Discussion Question: Do You Want to Help?
As I mention above, Bricks of the Dead is going to have to take a bit of a break next month, but I don’t want the site to be completely dead for two weeks, because that sucks. So here’s the deal: I want your help to fill the space for that time. I’m not going to get too picky here. If you want to do a guest comic, that’s super. Fan art? That’d be awesome (I’ve never gotten any, actually). Really cool builds? Works for me. So if you want to help and contribute a piece of content to fill the two weeks I need to take off, let me know in the comments below and we’ll get it setup.
Thank you in advance!
“Lately I’ve noticed that one of the eyes on the “Serious” Sam head has heavier printing than the other, which looks a little weird.”
Okay, that line threw me off a bit, but only because I’ve been playing (well, re-playing) the first Serious Sam games and got momentarily confused, thinking you were talking about the Croteam character, not the Lego guy.
Hah, that’s good stuff, Darg. I’ve heard of the game but never played it.
If you don’t get any bites with the content, might I suggest simply rounding out Sam’s character arc a little more? From what he’s telling that guy, there’s a lot more he needs to let out! 😉
Oh don’t worry, we’ll be seeing a bit more of Sam here. His arc won’t be quite wrapped up before the hiatus, so we’ll see more of him come march.
Play a 336 hour loop of “Everything is Awesome!” from the Lego Movie :p SPACESHIP! Good luck in the moving process, and I think fan art and builds is a cool idea. Sadly, I have neither.
And no, that doesn’t spoil anything but the soundtrack.
Hah, no worries.
You have neither now, but you’ve got plenty of time to produce some, right?
My artistic skills are lacking, but I might be able to build something
Give it a try!
I’m thinking a Lego mosaic of you or a zombie
That would be super cool.
I’ll get on it after I finish sorting. The plus of snowstorms is time away from everyday problems
Just finished your head. The perfect caption would be “Oooo, shinny!” :p
How can I send you the photo?
[email protected] works for me.
Just sent it to you. Hope it’s satisfactory 😀
Ok sam is getting on the wrong side of abe i think by ‘pointing fingers’.
Maybe so, maybe so.
Going to miss this comic but at least it comes back right right in time for my birthday!
As for the guest panels – what a fun idea! I wish I actually had Legos…
Thanks Kim!
You know, the guest comic doesn’t need to be made with LEGO. You could draw it, do it in MS Paint, photograph actual people or toys, or whatever.
That got me thinking of your April fools comic. You actually got me thinking it would be canceled/replaced by the painting
I got made MS Paint skills.
And a quick question, do you have a Flickr account for BOTD?
I do, but I’m really bad about updating it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricksofthedead/
Just followed and advertised 😀
Oh cool, thanks!
