Bonus Feature Cliché Lookout: Everyone Wants to be a Star

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like whenever I watch a show about a show, there’s this assumption that every man, woman, and child in the world wants nothing more than to be an actor (or a director, or writer – whatever the focus of that show is). Sure, they have jobs as car wash attendant, teachers, doctors, and factory workers because they’ve got to make ends meet, but given the chance they would abscond to Hollywood and be acting inside a week.

Heck, even if they’re a prosecutor for a high-level government office, and the person offering the acting job is a two-bit thug responsible (directly or indirectly) for innumerable on set “accidents”, the allure of the silver screen is just too much for most folks.

About this Episode:

Okay everyone, that’s a wrap on The Bonus Features. I hope you guys enjoyed this feature, which ended up lasting quite a bit longer than I originally intended. I certainly had fun writing it.

So where do we go from here? Why back to Bricks of the Dead proper, of course. I’m going to try to keep the comic going three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), because who wouldn’t want more zombies?

Currently, the bonus features are mixed in with the regular comics when browsing through episodes. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep them like this or look for a way to pull them out and into a separate stream. I do think the regular comics tend to compliment some of the Bonus Features, but at the same time I recognize that the main draw to the site is the zombie comic, which the Bonus Features might distract from. Jury’s still out for me on this one, guys.

  1. That was…. anticlimactic.

I’d definitely do a pull the Bonus Features to their own section with possible back and forth links for which comic they compliment. That’s probably too much work, but might be worth it.

    And more zombies!

    • Yeah, I’m not really sure how I’d do that at this point, but it’s probably worth investigating.

  2. Hmm did Dave intentionally leave it hanging like a cliffhanger where there doesn’t seem to be any real ending intentionally? Or are there a few panels missing? 😀

    • The idea was to be cyclical. Dave in the comic ended up pretty much where he started despite the overwhelming evidence against him. Because people in power rarely have to pay the piper.

  3. So . . . the empty chair? Who keeps swiveling it?

I like the Bonus Episodes intermingled with the main story. I appreciate the “in joke” aspect to them.

    • Ghosts. My set is widely thought to be haunted.

  4. Brilliant!
As the old saying goes, every man has his price.

    • “every man has his price.” Damn straight!

      • Did you see the “Random Roles” interview with Alex Rocco (“Moe Greene”) on the AVC this week? He figures that he’s made about a million from his residuals from “A Bug’s Life” – and he has maybe a dozen lines. Rock. On.

        • I hadn’t; I’ll have to circle back to that.

  5. Man, I would have never thought of saying something like that. Hat’s off the you!

    • Thank you, sir.

  6. Well I’m going to take a guess and say you are going to “kill” him off the comic.

    • I’m sure we will get what he deserves…

  7. so, your lawyer is obi-wan kenobi?

Also, I never noticed this, but Lego Dave looks a bit like a bald obi-wan kenobi…

    I like Star Wars.

  8. Me too :)… hey were did u get that red darth vader lego helmet?

    • it isn’t mine, I just found it on google, it is a picture of the only darth vader helmet prototype. I just figured it would do for now.

      • What do u mean prototype?

        • before they actually put it into production, they cast red prototype(red so it would be easier to see the details) and this is the one that they decided to use(the others were presumably destroyed) and they put this into production.

  9. i should become a cop so i can get in the comic for free -_-
