The plot thickens!
Once again, apologies for the late publish time here. I started my long-ass commute to work yesterday, and today things were exacerbated by rain, construction, and several accidents.

I have to say, I quite like this saloon set. The mix of LEGO and CG elements works quite well for an interior, which is a pleasant surprise.
Thanks Dave! For several frames in this one, I figured out how to put photoshop files into Adobe After Effects (video editing software), and use an actual chromakey process to key out the greenscreen, then get the images back out again. That’s why you can see through the glass on the bar in panel 7. 😉 I think that helped the blend a lot.
That’s pretty damn cool. I haven’t really used After Affects. Played around with it a bit in Premier… 7 maybe? Years ago and I couldn’t have been more lost.
Yeah, things like AE take me a while and quite a few online tutorials and FAQs to figure out.
When film/video is what you want to do with your life, you kind of push through and do your best to figure it out, I suppose.
wow, neat! The best effects are probably the ones you do not notice because they blend so well into the picture. The glass trick is quite a feat.
If I may ask…where did you learn to use all these tools?
Thanks! And yeah, I agree, I think the best part of special effects are the things you don’t notice (they’re not too flashy), but help sell the idea or story being communicated.
And I learned through experience, I suppose – I’ve been interested in filmmaking for a long time, so I bought a cheap camera and fiddled with it for a while, then realized I needed to edit things and got software for doing that, which also had included effects, so I’ve just kind of been working with it for a while. And online tutorials helped, too. 😉
hey dude, im really enjoying this guest strip, but you havent had another strip for the zombie outbrick for 2 weeks now, i dont mean to be rude or anything, but im fed up with waiting, i’d really like to see what happens next.
Thanks AC!
And I know – I’ve been tied up recently, but I’m going to be returning to Zombie Outbrick soon. In fact, I’m going to make an announcement in the next few days about that, so you should keep an eye out for it. 😉
Indeed it does. I rather like it.
I was admiring the swing doors and then I notice that the barkeeper is cross-eyed.
“[…] and then I notice that the barkeeper is cross-eyed.”
That’s such a weird face. Anyone know what set it came with?

Seems to be an older set, also looks like the series was primarily bricks, less minifigs.
Oooh, Time Cruisers. That was a really, really weird series.
I was gonna comment Time Cruisers, I’ve a bunch of parts and pieces for them as part of a lot of bricks I picked up at one time.
Got to love random lots of brick.
Same face, but I think this particular one originally came from this old set:

It’s hard to believe that face showed up in multiple sets, and not even in the same theme.
It’s hard to believe nobody has used that face as an avatar here…
im not very intrested in finding that head, im looking for people from the old video game “LEGO Racers,” i have the game, but im wondering if there really was a lego guy named Rocket Racer. someone please tell me when they find that guy, then put it in a link for me
You can bet I would, if I had it. My new job has me feeling like that. I’d put it right on that nurse’s body. 😉
who ever said that dave could play the piano? i never knew that.
I can play part of Lean on Me. That’s about it though.
so you were playing lean on me at a saloon in the 1800 aroung where i live now? now ive heard everything
I really like that piano. Very, very clever way to do white and black keys. 🙂
Looks especially great in the penultimate frame.
Thanks guys! It was a rush build, but I think it came out nicely considering.
awesome piano
Thanks legomaster 3700! Glad you like it. 🙂
no prob really enjoy john grey’s revenge
is it me or is the bartender cross eyed? Really loving this western thing.
Haha – sort of. I think he’s supposed to have glasses, but he sure looks crosseyed. 😉
And thanks, I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
Love your site, you’re doing a great job.
