Bonus Feature Cliché Lookout: Safety
Stunt and fight coordinators serve two extremely important functions on a production. First, they make stuff look awesome by ensuring the director’s vision for the fight or stunt in question. Second, they make that stuff look awesome safely, ensuring that the performers can complete the fight or stunt without putting themselves in harm’s way. Most productions would say that safety is paramount, but a production that uses real zombies as a part of the show? Probably not so much.
Of course, people like realism. It’s all the rage these days, what with all the “found footage” style films, cinema verite, and documentary-style shooting and editing. Anything you can do to give it that extra dose of reality is probably worth doing. And what could be more real that using real zombies in a photo-comic about zombies? It’s a no-brainer (no pun intended). Safety schmafety.
Other News:
I’ve already got 56 responses on the Bricks of the Dead survey, which is just amazing. On the off chance you haven’t had time to respond yet, there’s still time before I close it out. And to everyone who has responded, thank you!
I just can’t wait to find a way to artlessly mash your thoughtful responses into a blog post celebrating two years of everyone’s favorite zombie webcomic that is both made out of LEGO® bricks and isn’t named Zombie Outbrick. Yeah, it’s a bit specific, but what are you going to do?
Of course, the wandering zombies never seem to be around when Dave is! 😀 His own safety comes first, I reckon! 😉
So, if you ever get invited to Dave’s set, stick right on Dave’s tail! 😀 You’d be a lot safer than anywhere else! 😉
Maybe Dave is the zombie over-mind and they both fear and respect him, and that is why they never seem to mess up his scenes.
Now this is a hell of a theory!
I have a pretty badass security detail. Also, I stay in my office most of the time.
It sounds like any zombies that do get past the security detail get special roles in the BotD webcomic! 😀
Great job on the background Dave! I really like all those details and the clever use of the CMF!
Thank you, sir! That’s high praise coming from you.
I actually had a lot of fun with this one. I build a punching bag ages ago and had been looking for a place to use it.
Just noticed the weight lifter in the back getting himself crushed while the trainer drones on about saftey, that I must admit is hilarious to me.
Not only that, he calls himself a “stunt coordinator”! The hell he is! 😀
Exactly, that “weight-lifting incident” made me laugh 😀
Great episode 😀
like!!
Always have a spotter.
Coincidentally, I always hate using the free weights at the gym. Give me a machine.
Dave! Are you gonna let that pion minifig talk about you like that?
Them’s fighting words, Guy!
Dave? Does the stunt coordinator ever buddy up with the zombie wrangler to bitch about production? lol
He might have, back before the zombie wrangler got eaten.
The wrangler was eaten!?! I am so going back to re-read these,
I had forgotten about that too actually, until I read Dave’s comment, then I chuckled and laughed…ensuing weird looks occurred in the library.
Hey, your awesome avatar is back!
AHHAHAAH, Ifigured out what I was doing, was using a gmail account ending rather than my wayne email account ending…black and beautiful…more weird looks as I’m laughing so hard at that silly picture being back.
Think about it: Brilliant or safe?
Which do you really want?
I know what I’d choose.
Right now, I would def. take Brilliant, I’m having no fun in writing notes for my theatre course. Zombie apocolypse…how safe am I and for how long? If I’m brilliant can’t I make myself safe quickly? That one is a bit of a toughy for me, I think brilliance would kind of lend itself to safety if you can figure out the basic rules to your apocolypse quickly enough without succumbing to the numbness and confusion with the first outbreak.
Well hopefully Shannon can get some useful photos to use for the safety problems.
Perhaps…
While using real zombies makes it look better, I suppose things have to go how you want the first time over. Also, I’ve taken a great liking to an Indie game called the $1 Zombie Game, and MW3’s new Infection mode.
I might have to check out the $1 Zombie Game.
In the interests of safety……..do the zombies wear gumshields…….as I’m guessing their natural want for biting could be a problem.
love the weightlifter in the background, excellent! how many more of the minifig range are you going to manage to get into this story? 😀
Keep it up Dave!
I’m hoping to use quite a few more of them.
Well Dave tries to not think of himself to little!
Certainly not!
dUde your comics are epic (except for the gurst comics)
Thanks! (although I think my guest comics are awesome too!)
Hey dave, where do you get your lego guns
BrickArms, BrickForge, and BrickWarriors. All good companies. If you’re ordering BrickArms and you’re in the US, I recommend GI Brick, because they’re really nice folk.
Yeah I just got my order of brickarms yesterday, I am thinking of doing a lego space comic, there was a mix-up and I got retro ray guns instead of tactical swords, and I just found out my local department store has the Lego mini figures and I know what to feel for in those.
And so begins my quest – a long, arduous, and trying quest, requiring utmost intelligence and combat skill – a quest to catch up on Bricks of the Dead! (Ok, so maybe it isn’t most of those things…)
Nice weight room! I love how the weight trainer in the background just falls over. And no one can argue with your highly specific statement about BotD!
