Zombie Cliche Lookout: Um, Guys? Zombies.
You never want your lookout to come bursting into the room, yelling about a problem. Even if you’re not in the middle of (barely) surviving the zombie apocalypse, it’s a bad sign. After all, if you need to post a lookout, things can’t be going too terribly well for you. And if you are in the middle of the zombie apocalypse? Well, don’t make a lot of lone-term future plans.
And if your lookout does come rushing in, it’s probably a good idea to hear what he/she has to say. Odds are it’s important. Don’t get me wrong, everyone wants to know you wife and kids’ names, but they’d be better off hearing those after they hear about the gigantic biker gang that’s bearing down on them. Your mileage may vary, of course.
About this Episode:
I like adding new characters into the comic every now and then (got to keep plenty of cannon fodder available, right?) but I always hate doing introductions. They’re sort of a necessary evil: it would look weird for everyone to know each other magically, but taking the time to introduce themselves sucks the momentum out of the story.
On the other hand, it does give me the chance to use some of the awesome names you guys suggested. I decided to go with a bit of a theme for the family here. I think it fits.
Discussion Question: Post-Apocalyptic, Zombie Killing Tunes
This is it. The zombies are here. Civilization has failed. You managed to survive the initial chaos, and are now living a bleak day-to-day existance finding food and killing/avoiding zombies. By all accounts, it’s not a fun way to live. Luckily, you managed to keep your MP3 player and solar charger with you (nice job, guy!). The question is: what’s in your zombie survival playlist?

but some tunes for the zombie apocalypse? Lots and lots of avenged sevenfold, like not ready to die, and i know that at some point someones going to say Down with the Sickness, 84% sure.

I was a pretty big fan of Disturbed’s first album. It seems like they completely went off the rails with the second one though.

To start off, the Rolling Stones with “Doom and Gloom”. To follow some Guns N’ Roses playing “Welcome to the Jungle”, to make things a bit more interesting I’ll add “Explode” by Droptek. Afterwards I’d enjoy some “Top of the World” by Stephen Walking. Furthermore Wagner with “Ride of the Valkyries”. This will come into play when someone is running with some sort of explosive and begins to blow stuff up. To finalise, we can’t live without some Toto. “Africa” you’ve made the cut!

A problem? If he’d failed to keep the zombies out, I’d think he’d be a bit more worried, so I’m going to guess that there are a few more zombies than we were expecting out there.
Question:
If you’re asking what I would listen to in combat, the answer is “listen out for zombies”, no music is worth getting ambushed for. During downtime, probably Iron Maiden or Nightwish, those are a couple of my favourites.

Of course keeping the Ipod charged is going to be interesting. I’d recommend a car charger and an inverter/generator set to keep the laptop running. You could always use the laptop for PSK communications (sending text over amateur radio) and plug it into whatever is keeping your ham shack on the air.
May as well have some tunes in the car, too, since AM/FM is sure to be down in a WCS.
I’ll have to think more about this as I am moving to turn my commuter car into a mini BOV.

I like the idea of being plugged in to some classical music (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc) whilst caving in zombie skulls/chopping off heads. The peacefulness and tranquility of the music keeping you calm and focused whilst you fight your way out of a tight spot

I like most of these, especially Disturbia and Avenged Sevenfold, I would also throw in a little Prodigy (Smack my Bitch up ) No need for political correctness during the ZA. Plus Dies Irae from Mozarts Requiem (3rd movement) and probably some Beethoven. Finally I would top it off with a few really classic and out of place pieces. Like maybe Sinatra s Summer Wind or that remix of Elvis’ A Little Less Conversation

I would def have Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns album. I listened to this the entire time I played fallout 3. Thought it worked really well for an apocaliptic world

Nothing; the mp3 player would be the first thing to ditch/sacrifice for survival.
I’d have more important things to worry about than making playlists, and listening to music would be an unnecessary (and potentially deadly) distraction anyway; using a speaker dock would attract unwanted attention and using earbuds/headphones would dampen my awareness of my surroundings. Considering how stealthy zombies (and other survivors) can be, I’m not going to want to miss any subtle noises like shuffling or breathing because I was jamming to my favorite tunes. That’d be one of the dumbest ways to die.

There’s a PR campaign going around, by the American Heart Association, I think, regarding the tempo for CPR. They state that “Staying Alive” has the perfect beat for CPR.
To which I reply, “Yeah? So does ‘Another One Bites the Dust’!”
The one we were taught was “Nellie the Elephant”. According to our instructor, it has the right number of beats for the number of compressions too.
I don’t know if it’s been said but I think the obvious choice is “In a Heartbeat” from 28 days later cause that was awesome suspensful zombie theme music!!

well im back abd thought that for all of those genres, the best song that i can think off the top of my head would be Radioactive by imagine dragons (childish name huh?)
