LEGO Zombie House

Once again, it’s Thursday, which means it’s time to find an awesome LEGO zombie creation to showcase. This time around, we’re looking at “LEGO Zombie House” by David Saunders. While it’s not given a terribly imaginative name, but it’s certainly an excellent shot. Check it out:

What’s Going On?

While there’s no story on the creation’s Flickr page, I think we can pick up quite a lot from the context of the scene. Here, we have a single survivor, enjoying an evening on his balcony with a drink in his hand. One assumes that what he’s drinking is alcoholic, and that it’s certainly not his first. How else would you explain his complete lack of attention to the sizable horde of zombies behind him? Especially when you consider the self-satisfied smirk on his face.

What I Like

The thing that really strikes me about this build is the use of light and darkness; it’s just beautifully shot (and edited). The only light in the scene comes from the sconces in the foreground, complete with a lens flare from the light source on the right.

I’m also a big fan of the the zombies here. First of all, it uses a whole bunch of the original collectible minifig zombies, which were the first official zombies LEGO ever offered. Second, we can only clearly see the two zombies closest to the camera, everything else is obscured by the depth of field and encroaching darkness.

What Could Be Improved

The only thing I’d like to see improved in this creation is the way the survivor is acting. He’s just completely oblivious, but we don’t get a lot of reasoning why that would be. Sure, you could come up with a theory like I did about him being completely inebriated, but the only thing in the scene that supports this is the cup that he’s holding. It would be a lot better if there were several empty bottles lying about, or some other reasoning for why he isn’t noticing all those zombies.

Its possible this is the first night of the zed out break and he was at a party (possibly a celebration for the pictured character) and took a moment for himself, not realizing the rest of the party goers had become zeds. That’s my take on it.

I kind of get the feeling that the zombie closest to him is one that became intelligent in some way, and is asking him something: “Sir, would you please come back to the party? The rest of our group are waiting for the banquet to be brought in.” 😀

“And now is the time to revile that all you guests are the murders, due to mass hypnotis. Now Scooby! Remove the mask!”

“Rut-o! Raggy!”

In the other hand, it could be well into the apocalypse.

Your man got himself trapped, found a bottle, and said to himself.

“Well, I’m fecked. Might as well have a drink.”
