LEGO Zombie Creation: Cramped Combat

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Thursday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

The Zombie Creation:

This week’s LEGO Zombie creation is official called “Test Shot for LED lights and cramped space“, but I’m going to rename is “Cramped Combat” for the duration of this write-up. This was done by Francis Matti as a test for his lighting setup, but I think it’s quite a nice little scene in its own right.

Cramped Combat - A LEGO Zombie Creation

So What’s Going On?

We have two survivors who appear to be fleeing up a narrow staircase, possible in a basement. They are being pursued by a number of zombies, and must choose between shooting a couple of them to buy some time, or just trying to get away as quickly as possible. What I really like about this scene is how claustrophobic it is.

This is affected by two framing choices, the first being the blue wall the obscures the left side of the frame. Since it is so prevalent in the shot, it makes it seem like it’s squeezing in on the characters, denying them any bit of breathing room as they struggle to survive. The second is that the zombies that are chasing the survivors are coming in from off screen, hinting at far more zeds just out of the frame. The blond character’s expression and posture against the rear wall also helps sell the panic they must be feeling.

Let’s Talk About the Zombies

We really can’t see much of the zombies here, and there are only two of them. This is effective because we simply don’t know how may of them there are, but, based on the reaction of the survivors, we have to assume there are a good number of them.

Have you seen a great zombie creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.
