LEGO Zombie Creation: Suburban Hell

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Thursday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

The Zombie Creation:

This week’s creation, “The Walking Dead: Suburban Hell” by by Ironsniper, has a lot of the things I love to see in a MOC. Right off the bat, it’s well built and well photographed, which is harder to come by than you might imagine (photographing LEGO®, after all, is no easy task).

So What’s Going On?

This is a creation that has a few layers to it, so let’s break it down bit by bit.

The base of the creation is a perfectly rendered, modern suburban home. Baring the zombies and other post-apocalyptic accoutrement, it looks like it was plucked right out of a housing development. The nuetral tan exterior is a perfect summation of the run of the mill suburban home. The build quality here is fantastic; look no further than the picture perfect join on the roof to see the loving detail invested into this creation.

On top of this picture of suburban bliss, we get a layer of horror. We have survivors in a desperate struggle against the zombies. They while away the hours, working at building barricades, adding solar panels to the roof, and planting gardens to get them through the long months ahead. All the while the zombies approach.

Further on, we see the toil this has taken on both the survivors and the home. The landscaping, once perfect, is slowly getting out of control, as weeds and long grass take over the formerly manicured lawn. Doors and windows are covered with hastily nailed boards, and the home’s interior is a mess of daily survival.

Let’s Talk About the Zombies

We don’t see much of the zombies here, as the focus is on the survivors and their makeshift preparations. The exist on the periphery, a silent but ever-present threat to the people making this home into a fortress.
