Strip away fancy camerawork, beautiful actors, and flashy special effects, and you’re left with a story. If that story doesn’t resonate, then you don’t really have much of anything. Sure, sometime you can distract from a crappy story with enough craziness on screen (Avatar is a sterling example of this), but generally speaking when your story is garbage, so too is the movie.

About This Episode:
If you can’t make out the screens, our intrepid writers are playing Angry Birds and browsing Facebook. I went with Angry Birds because my two year old in obsessed with the game for some damn reason.

  1. Is the guy on the left playing Angry Birds?

    • Indeed he is.

  2. I tried playing Angry Birds with a friend’s cellphone… the touch screen wouldn’t respond to me, so I just took a deep breath and commented the game isn’t for me.

But I love it… “Don’t make me get my brass knuckles again.”

    That’s just priceless.

    • Thanks, Silver Fox.

For the record, I think it’s a cute little game. I don’t quite get the obsession, but it’s fun enough.

      • It sounds fun, but I don’t see how it’s so big. There’s so many ‘fire a thingy at a thingy to see how many thingies fall over’, for example Dummy Never Fails is a lot like Angry Birds. I looked up the Angry Birds concept. It doesn’t make sense!
Why must birds be fired from catapults? That’s animal cruelty!

        • I think it hit big because it coupled the existing physical casual game with controls that work really well for touch-screen interfaces. The fact that it’s polished, whimsical, and really, really easy to get into helps as well.

  3. Angry Birds is a good game, but I’m just shit at it.

    • Well you don’t have to be good at it to appreciate it, I suppose. I’m not terribly great at it either.

  4. So… your writers are high school students? (This isn’t to say that they’re bad; I know some inventive, clever, and thoughtful high school writers. Beyond that dozen, though…)

    • Hah!

This episode is a bit of a homage to shows like 30 Rock.

      • I’m sure you’ve seen this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1442402709/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=sr_1_1&qid=1318037670&sr=8-1

        • Man, I think my kid needs that.

  5. Oh god.. Their not unionizing are they? .. There’s only two of ’em.. And I’m willing to work for below minimum..

    • Hah, I wonder what the WGA would think of these working conditions, what with the threats of bodily harm and whatnot.

      • I dunno, lets wait until we receive strongly worded letter and pretty hand written pickets signs.

        • “Pretty hand written picket signs” made me smile. Keep on keepin’ on, Calicade.

  6. The day Dave turns out something that’s garbage storyline will be the day I request that Dave hang up his internet connection for good. So far that day isn’t coming any time soon, keep up the good work Dave! 😉

Oh, by the way, it’s “your” not “you’re” – the latter is a contraction of “you are” not a possessive verb, which the former is. 🙂

    • That’s for the second “you’re”, by the way, Dave. The first time you used it you had it right!

      • Dammit, that’s fixed. Thanks BrickVoid.

  7. Lego brass knuckles and a pissed off woman. Someone call 911. Or if they’re high school students, CPS.

    • They’ll need to send in a crisis team.

      • Or swat.

  8. Awesome!

I have been playing a lot of Angry Zombies 2 lately.

Just thought I would share that for some reason.

    • I’ve not heard of that one. Did the pigs steal the zombies’ eggs? Damn pigs.

      • Maybe instead of blaming the pigs.. We should blame the parents whom did not keep a close enough eye on their eggs?

        • But the pigs are evil. One even has a Stalin-esque mustache.

        • You talking about the one that ‘hogs’ all the mud?

      • Naw…you’re zombies spreading the zombie virus destroying the world.

        • Even better!

        • I want that is it actually real?

        • Yeah it’s for the iphone…think I paid 1.99 or something. It’s nothing like Angry Birds and it’s carttoony. I like it tho.

          ^ here it is

  9. The other ones Facebooking rofl xD FTW

    • I work for a software company, so everyone is in front of a computer pretty much all day. Walking around any time I guarantee I can find at least half a dozen people playing on Facebook instead of working. Most of the time, I’d have to include myself in that number.

  10. Haha, I love how those writers are just messing around. It’s very true to modern society I think…

Anyway, nice use of the graduate’s diploma. I was trying to figure out a way to use it, but it really would have been useful for the scenes back in the Boss’s office in the early episodes of ZO.

I really like the design of the writer’s room. I seriously need to get myself some of those laptops!

    • I love that diploma. It definitely would have looked good in the bosses office in your strip. C’est la vie, I suppose.

The laptops are great. I just recently got these two in a used Agents set I found on Craiglist. I’ve been aching for a place to use them.

  11. zOMG I know how it is to be obsessed with Angry Birds. I got mad when I couldn’t figure out a puzzle to get teh most points so I can TOTALLY relate xP I love the laptops though!

    • My son would love you, then. He’ll sit there and watch people play Angry Birds for way longer than you’d ever think a two year-old could. It’s hilarious.

      • Sounds like my German teacher’s daughter! She only has Angry Birds shirts, and is constantly playing it.

  12. Woah! Crossover! Go look at Nurse Geri’s shirt today on Reasonably Clever. That’s funny.

    • Totally accidental. I like the torso though. Been waiting for an opportunity to use it.

      • where did you get it from?

        • LEGO store build a minifig bin.

        • I can’t go in there anymore unless I have to. Just feel weird as a bearded adult walking in with no kid. Last time I was in there I almost took the head off some kid with the oversized Grand Emporium set and swore the store off.

  13. I’m not really much for Angry Birds. I tried playing it, and I couldn’t even pass the training mission. Facebook- I log on maybe once a month. I like this strip, though. How did you get the board on the back?

    • You mean the script on the white screen? Photoshopped it.

      • Ingenious.

        • You could also print it out on clear sticker paper and use that. Photoshop seemed simpler. Plus I don’t have clear sticker paper.

        • Can anyone here do this for a decal you can put onto a brick that will be of quality^? Iike if I gave you a specific size to work with?

        • Something tells me TheDudePerson is going to be your best bet.

        • *shambles off to ZombieOutbrick*

        • Hah, I might be able to print and mail you something… No guarantees that the “decal” wouldn’t smudge if you handled it too much, though. My newspapers haven’t smudged yet! (But I haven’t handled them much, either…)

Anyway, shoot me an email Mutts, and I’ll see what I can do. 😉

        • Thank you Dude. Very kind of you.

Give me a week or so to decide on exact text and size if that’s ok. I have built a “skeleton” of this thing and torn it down 5 times now as I am trying to figure out the size of this structure. Think I may have it now.

I will of course pay for any expenses or send you some stuff you can use for your strip.

        • I also have some Sticker Paper. But a very bad printer. Well, sometimes.

  14. Love the writing in the background 😀 Lol this is one of my favourite spin off things yet 😀

    • Thank you!

  15. I’ve got an interesting question to ask all of a sudden. Can a zombie make another zombie out of a corpse that’s already dead or is it just by biting people? I’m playing a game on Newgrounds called Zombie Survival Quiz 2. Here’s the link: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/531344

    • That’s an interesting question. I would say yes but I don’t think a zombie would ever bite a corpse.

But lets say a non infected corpse was laying there with open wounds and a zombie was shot near the corpse and got infected blood into the corpses wounds then yeah it would reanimate I think.

      • Novelists and film writers usually go for the virus approach. These zombies are the living who become infected and then die and get back up again. It needs the person to be alive to take over. Necrotic zombies are the ones crawling out of graves and stuff and usually instead of infecting people they just eat them.

    • Every zombie story plays by its own rules. Nekrospike gives a good summation of the two types.

In my world, zombies wouldn’t eat carrion, and thus wouldn’t infect them. However, and this is important, in a lot of zombie stories, all the recently dead reanimate, regardless of whether they were bitten.

      • Your zombies wouldn’t eat carrion at all? I would have expected they would if it was fresh. I mean, your zombies are genuinely hungry, they stripped the poor bugger next door to Murphy to the bone!
I would have expected one of two things, either they’re hungry enough to eat anythingone relatively fresh, or they aren’t really hungry without a G.I. system, and lose interest once their prey stops wriggling. Only eating things they killed strikes me as needing a bit more memory than I’d expect from a zombie.
I’m sure there are animals that would behave like that, but most animals are smarter than zombies, who seem to lack such essential survival traits as pain reflexes and fear.

  16. This will be awsome we can submit zombie creations! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60874&st=0

    • That would be quite cool. Nice find.

  17. Dead Frontier is sooooooo fun.

    • HAven’t played that game in a long time. I think it was better when it was 2d

      • I did the text based ones.. Not the Shooter.

        • Yeah I love the Dead Frontier Outbreak games. I wish they would get around to making another.

      • I played the 2D one a bit. Pretty fun game, although it was a little too combat oriented for me. Seems like it was hard to get into as well.
