Zombie Cliché Lookout:
At some point in every zombie movie, our characters need to grab their (often improvised) weapons and start kicking ass. If the story starts sometime after the outbreak began, our heroes are generally ready at a moment’s notice.

  1. Lego zombie blood? AWE.some.

    • You can’t have zombies without gratuitous violence.

Well, I guess you could, but why would you want to?

      • agreed.

  2. This comment is 3 years late, but who keeps a machete in their house?

    • *raises hand*

      I do 🙂

    • I think it’s time to get off my ass and get my “A knife for every purpose and a purpose for every knife” essay in to Dave…

      • I like your thinking…

        • I gathered a large portion of my knives and laid them out for some pictures today; but there was no memory card in the camera. Later in the week…

      • That’d be really cool, Bo.

        • I’ll start on it as soon as I find a memory card- so weird.

I’ve wanted to talk about things like blade geometry, edge profile, and especially size, and how they all relate to task for a while now. It’s a recurring theme here at BotD,: Which knife is best for this job? It usually comes out as “What would you use for survival/killing zombies?”

I think that there are a lot of preconceived notions that we get from zombie movies. For instance, one thing we seldom, if ever, see in zombie flicks is folks sharpening their knives. What happens when your paper thin wal*mart machete gets a big notch in its blade? Worse, what happens when it binds up in a zombie’s skull? Can you use it to open that can of fruit cocktail you just scored from the burned out remains of that corner store? These are some of the points I’d like to address.

        • Oops, left that tag open at the end of “BotD”…

        • I’m on board!

        • Thanks.

I was going through the knives I have stashed in various kits and LBE, and some that I bought as experiments that didn’t quite work out, and a couple of kitchen knives I want to show for comparison, and it’s about twenty blades, I guess.

        • Narrowed it down to about seven.

        • Progress!
