Zombie Cliche Lookout: Concessions

Negotiating in the midst of a zombie apocalypse is going to look a lot like negotiating anywhere else. You want to come to the table with strength, and put the other side in a position where they have to compromise. This is the ideal, of course. In reality, you’ll rarely be in a position to negotiate on such terms. Rather, you’ll likely be coming to the table as equals, or even at a pronounced disadvantage. And in when you’re dealing with a zombie outbreak, the stakes tend to be pretty high, so suck it up and do the best you can.

Of course, the zombie issue can act as a bit of an equalizer too. Sure, one side of the negotiations might hold most of the cards, but at the end of the day you both have to deal with the undead. And, if they’re negotiating at all, that means they need something from you.

About this Episode:

So far, Henry has been a bit of an asshole. Well, maybe the “a bit” part isn’t true; he’s just been an asshole. He comes into the group and immediately sets to intimidate them all in a few different ways. So why the sudden reversal? Well, what better way to take people off guard to drop a huge surprise on them?

Discussion Question: Romance in the Zombie World

So today is Valentine’s Day, at least it is here in the US. I’m honestly not sure how much of the rest of the world celebrate this particular holiday. Regardless, we’re going to use that for the theme of our discussion question today. How do you think romantic relationships will work in a survival situation? Will people be less willing to form long-term bonds with the threat of constant death, or will that push people together all the quicker? How about pregnancy? Will people be trying to avoid getting pregnant, or focusing on re-population? How will the stress of daily survival affect people’s ability to both build relationships and have babies?

  1. So, is he a hostage or a infiltrator? I’m thinking the latter, he had this information about this group, but where he got it from is a mystery. I wonder if he met up with Inez? 😀

    • Very good question; I guess we’ll see.

      I love the Inez theory.

      • It fits so perfectly, you had better have planned it! 😉

        • Infiltrator, I was thinking the same thing. Send two members of the group away, and get a man inside. They’d be ripe for a surprise attack.

  2. Where love in a zombie apocalypse is concerned, I’m thinking there’s going to be strange, kinky, and odd romances forming. But it’s all going to be about the people forming them, nothing ever got done without people bonding and pairing off. Of course there’s the same-sex problem when there’s not enough pairs or not enough suitable partners around, that would be most interesting to watch unfold in a zombie apocalypse! 😀

    • Interesting point, it’s almost like a prison in that case. Limited resources, potential partners not necessarily aligning to your sexuality.

  3. I have a feeling we are going to see a familiar face at this “meeting”. Just a feeling. 😉

    • Which face?

      • Possibly…yours? 😮 Lol.
Could be anyone. Inez would be good. Could be clark. Maybe Barb. Or that girl from the family sam killed. Vicky and the kids. Joy and Michael. I forget who else is missing. The President, maybe. Maybe someone from Sam’s work. Lol! Gotta be someone! 😀 Maybe.

  4. How romantic the zombie apocalypse will be. Instead of having a candle lit dinner, eating fish and wine. You could crack open a couple cans of dog food, next to a burning pile of bodies! 🙂

    • That sends the heart aflutter.
