Zombie Cliche Lookout: Unfinished Business

One of the consequences of bringing all your characters back together is that anything left unresolved is going to bubble back up to the surface, and the zombie apocalypse has a way of leaving a lot of unresolved conflict. I mean, it’s kind of hard to settle up every interpersonal conflict when there’s an army of animated corpses trying to eat your face.

But when the face eating hits a bit of a lull, those slightly less pressing conflicts come into sharp focus. And the more time that has passed between the original conflict and the resurgence, the tougher things will be on everyone concerned. Another thing to consider is that, unless the zombie threat is well and truly handled, any conflict within the group weakens its overall cohesion and ability to work together when the zeds invariably show back up late on. Long story short: sort out your drama before zombies eat you and all your loved ones.

About this Episode:

There’s a real downside to using a small cabin as one of your primary sets. It makes sense that the characters would use this location. After all, it’s remote, and that makes it secure. It might not be comfortable, but that’s a reasonable trade-off for safety. But when you go to actually shoot anything in it, well, it’s awfully crowded.

Discussion Question: Sam & Stew

So it’s been a hell of a long time since Sam and Stewart had their little blow-up. I don’t know if you guys remember it or not, but if you do, who do you think was in the wrong (both is an option as well) and why? How should it be resolved now?

And if you don’t remember, well, those episodes are still there, just waiting to be reviewed by eager readers.

  1. I’d go back and re-read, but its hell trying to find old episodes. Lol!
    😀
But…I think sam didn’t feel he got enough respect from the group, and he refused to save stew from a zombie until the group gave him that respect. I forget why he didn’t feel respected.

Did I get that right? What did I miss?

Who was in the wrong? The right answer us probably Sam. But Stew can probably be super annoying. So…its about 50/50. Lol! 😀

How to resolve this. Just forget about it. Jesus! There are Bigger Problems, people! But I can’t see stew forgiving Sam/moving on from this anytime soon. Lol!

    • That’s pretty much it, Sam was full of himself, as the euphemism goes, and wasn’t listening to the group nor was he caring about them nor was he caring about interacting with them as a part of the group. 😀

      • Yeah. Sam reall was a dick. Sorry, Dave? I know you like him, but he’s really messed up. Lol! 😀

        • He was absolutely a dick. That’s why he chose to risk his life to let the others escape, and then ended up getting kidnapped in the process.

  2. That’s great! Sam and Stewart already have a very rocky past. Now let’s introduce a pretty girl for them to fight over! Lmao!

    • Hah!

  3. Is Brent dead already? Inez left while he was dying? She couldnt wait a couple hours? Lol.

    • Apparently camera crew members are a dime a dozen down at the unemployment office! 😀 Who knew? In a zombie apocalypse anyone unemployed is going to suddenly either get eaten or be turned into one of the zombie horde. That’s one hell of a way to resolve an unemployment crisis! 😀

      • Haha! 😀

        • He isn’t dead yet, but it won’t be long.

And yes, Inez leaving him was weird in retrospect. I should have done that differently.

  4. Awesome idea! Inez, Joy, and Michael could meet up with Clark. And could come back as a villainous group somewhere down the line! Cool! Probably won’t happen because BOTD’s “line” is not very long, but still fun to think about.

    • That’s a definite possibility. Joy and Michael didn’t strike me as bad people, per se, but you never know what circumstances can do to a person.

  5. Does anyone besides me think Stewart is taking some sort of liking to Tara? 😀 The second panel would be really revealing if minifigures could actually blush! 😀

    • It definitely seems like he is “interested” in Tara! 😀

“Did it hurt, when you fell from Heaven?”

“No. But it hurt when I left my dad to die, 2 hours ago.” 😀

      “Umm…okay. I’ll…see you later.”

      Haha!

      • Hah!

    • How old is Stewart? I thought dave once said he was around 17 or something. It’s really hard to tell with legos.

And how old is Tara? Id say shes 23-26. So she may be a little old for him. But I doubt that’ll stop Stewart. 😀

      • Stewart is 16. Tara is in her late twenties, maybe early thirties.

  6. OK, I did a bit of digging – check out this episode:
    http://bricksofthedead.com/comic/episode-132/
Murphy: “Don’t worry Sam, we’ll be there.”
Maybe I missed something… but if there is one person Sam should be upset with.. it’s not Stewart.

    • Hah. They tried, but you know what they say about good intentions.

      • In this webcomic good intentions either get eaten by zombies or turned into one of the zombie horde trying to bite anything it sees! 😀

That being said, yes, they did try, but look at it from Sam’s perspective for a minute: He doesn’t know any of what transpired because some people in hazmat suits knocked him unconscious and took him away from all this. He’s therefore probably thinking they didn’t come back for him, if we try to look at it from his view. 😀

        • No, you’re absolutely right. If I were in Sam’s shoes, I’d be pretty damn bitter about that. Maybe Sam’s a bigger person than me.

I mean, not physically. I’m a pretty big guy.

    • If I’m not mistaken, which I probably am, Sam doesn’t know that Shannon is dead. I dont remember them telling him. (Or did they? I’ve got a bad memory. 😀 ) Are we going to see this, or just assume that they told him on the way to the cabin!

      • Oh, you’re right! Exciting times ahead.

      • Interesting plot point for Days to add to his list of loose ends to be cleared up! 😀

        • Hah, right you are. Sam has a bit of catching up to do.

        • Apparently the text messaging option on my mobile phone derped and called you “Days” instead of “Dave” 😀 *sighs*

        • Meh, close enough.

  7. I am so confused by all these “new” characters. I think somehow I missed a large section of the story, Hopefully it will all become clear as we go along. Otherwise I’ll have to go back to the archives and re-read from the beginning.
    There are worse things. 😉

    • I think the only really new character here is Tara. She’s the person that let Sam in after he escaped from the crazy survivalists. Sam helped get meds for her dad, and she ended up joining him after he met up with Cheryl and Russell.

      • I remember the storyline with Tara and her father, but the rest is a blur. Definitely need to start re-reading.

      • Another great chapter–gonna be counting the second ’til Monday to see the next episode!

Hope that the conflict will be worth wild and help move the story ahead…like you make any other kind… 😉
