About this Episode:
For some reason it took me many, many attempts to get those last to frames properly lit and in focus. Very frustrating.

Zombie Cliché Lookout:
For whatever reason (quite possible Evil Dead 2) most people think that a chainsaw is the ultimate zombie killing weapon, at least as far as those most people would have access to. The thing about chainsaws is that they’re loud, heavy, depend on gasoline to run, and are easy to have hurt yourself with. Not to mention that spraying around all that zombie blood and gore – while certainly cathartic – probably isn’t terribly good for anything. Suffice it to say, in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, you can probably find something a lot more practical.

  1. There can be only one thing worse than a chainsaw wielding maniac, and that’s a chainsaw wielding mainac who’s about to become a zombie! 😀

    • At least when he turns into a zombie he’ll lose the coordination required to operate a chainsaw.

  2. There are some small chainsaws that aren’t as loud and heavy…..

    • Wow, you could really tear up the zeds with a pair of those things. I wonder what the battery life is like.

  3. chainsaw and car or motorbike put together. whater plus smal cheap electronics chainsaw and a long stick.

    • That’s a little video-gamey for what I’m trying to do with this strip. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fun ideas, just not a good fit here.

      • Speaking of video-gamey, chainsaws and zombie killing weapons, one zombie killing weapon from a video game that really annoys me because of how eneficent people dont realise it would be:A stick with a chainsaw on either end.

      • Absolutely right, Replica. It would be incredibly difficult and dangerous to use, poorly balanced, and you would have to maintain an exact range for it to be effective. Not even remotely practical.

That said, taping two running chainsaws to a kayak paddle in Dead Rising 2 is a thing of beauty.

      • Do you need reminding that Dead Rising runs on the rule of awesome? You can also tape a diamond to flashlight and get a lightsaber.

      • So much awesome. I still haven’t actually complete the game. I always just get too wrapped up in causing mayhem that the goals keep expiring. Ah well.

  4. Is a chainsaw better than the mallet? Well, so long as the blade stays intact and the engine’s running, the ‘saw probably wins out. Once it’s out of gas, the blade would not work as a melee weapon – well, not work well…

    • I always think simplicity is the way to go. A good hammer or baseball bat will do the trick.

      • I find it funny how on murder mystery TV shows, and more recently CSI TV shows, the victim is sometimes murdered with “a blunt instrument”. 😀

      • So are you suggesting we use a nice, heavy instrument to beat down the undead hoards? A timpani, perhaps? Maybe a double bass.

  5. What you really want is one of those heavy duty brush cutters. Like a weedeater but with more powe, and a meatal blade on the end. They give you reach. They are actually balanced pretty well. And when you run out of gas you remove the blade hold it by the shaft and use it as a bludgeon.

    • Yeah, it sounds like that would do the trick all right. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything handheld like that.

  6. i would personaly use golf clups go to a hockey store and get some armor

    • I actually used a golf club as a weapon in the Official Bricks of the Dead flash game. It worked out pretty well.

      • i agree it came out nicely

  7. well in my opionion chainsaws may be very handy if you have the strength and coardination you can handle a medium sized chainsaw but whoever said you couldent get the small sized cute mini-saw?

still if i took my chances rather then a chainsaw i would crab the friendly pickaxe or crowbar next door.

  8. in left 4 dead though the chainsaw seems to be the perfect sidearm it hacks hordes away like a knife through butter.

its i bit strange how games determined the realisim

    • It’s important to remember that the most important thing in a game is whether it’s fun to play, and it’s hard to argue that it’s not fun to take on hordes of zombies with a chainsaw in Left 4 Dead.

In reality, it would probably be a hell of a liability.
