Zombie Cliche Lookout: The Rescue

You can only face zombies so long before luck turns against you. Maybe you’re the type who likes to fight, or maybe you like to avoid them. It doesn’t matter. At some point, you’re going to screw up. With any luck, you’ll be lucky enough to have someone watching your back. Someone who cares about you enough to jump in and pull your ass out of the fire.

About this Episode:

Two items for today. First, a few people have noted that Episode 666 was coming, and that maybe it would be especially evil. It’s not, but hey, extra panel. That counts for something, right?

Second, I’m trying something a little different on the photography side. Starting with this episode, I’m shooting in full manual mode. Prior to this, I had been using Aperture Priority. I’m making this change in an attempt for better control over the light level in the photos. This is a daytime episode, so it didn’t make much difference, but episodes that are set in the dark are going to be done very differently. Hopefully it works. We’ll see.

Other News:

I owe a huge thank you to pi3rk, who contributed an excellent guest comic series, The Roaming Bricks, that allowed me to take some time off around the holidays. Not only did I really appreciate the time off, I think the comic itself was extremely well done, and I was really happy to see how much everyone was enjoying it.

Discussion Question: Who Has Your Back?

As I pointed out above, having someone keeping an eye out for you is a pretty important survival strategy in the zombie apocalypse. This suggests the question: who has your back when the zombies show up? Why would you pick them, and how did you earn their trust?

  1. I certainly hope Cheryl has noticed that zombie that Sam pushed down is getting back up again! 😀 Both Cheryl and Sam have to not only reunite with each other, it’d be preferable if the zombies didn’t infect either one of them! 😉

    • It would be a tragic reunion indeed if one or both get zombified in the process.

  2. One good thing about this episode is that there are no typos to report! Hooray! 😀

    • Yay!

      • If that’s not supernatural influence I don’t know what is.
        (Kidding, kidding 😀 )
        Welcome back.

        • Hah, well said.

  3. Not evil indeed but fair amount of gore here! And the extra panel certainly is a great addition (plus it s a wide one!) I have to admit I kinda most track of Cheryl, nice to see her.

About today’s question, I guess that most of the time people will have to rely on strangers and won’t always have the luxury to pick/choose them.

And… Thanks again for the Guest comic featuring… 😉

    • No sir, thank you! I loved having some guilt-free time off.

  4. Welcome back Dave!
…aaand here comes Cheryl! Yay, big reunion time coming! Can you believe that Sam last saw her in episode #132 (yes, 534 episodes ago)?

    • Wow, I wrote them all and I can hardly believe the gap has been that long.

      • How long would you say it has been in the story timeline – a week or 2?

        • Yeah, probably about two weeks. Not a ton of time, really.

  5. Just an fyi, I always use the manual settings, and night still poses a problem for legibility. I’ve found the best thing for me to do is to just shoot the photos normally and darken them in Preview or Photoshop afterward.

    • Oh, that’s really interesting. Darkening in post is what I do now, so I’m definitely comfortable doing that.

  6. Welcome back Dave. Trust you had some nice time off and had a nice holiday with family 🙂

Starting the year off with a bang, Cheryl reappears in the nick of time… is she in time though?

So glad I came across this website a few years ago!

    • I’m so glad you came across it too!

  7. Hi there, keep rivising.

    • Keep rivising? What did I miss?
