Misc. News:
First of all, I’d like to apologize for completely disappearing last week. I woke up in the middle of the night on Monday with awful chills, and was immediately sent home from work on Tuesday morning. After that, I slept for almost two days, and spent the third on the couch watching random stuff on Netflix (Home Movies is kind of awesome, by the way). I went to the doctor and it turns out I had a double dose of the flu and strep throat. It was very unpleasant, but I’m on the mend now and feeling much better.

I like to read and respond to all the comments you guys leave on this site. The fact that so many of you take the time to interact with me here means a hell of a lot to me, so I’m sorry for missing a few days of that. I really love that, despite my absence, you still had a lot to say. You guys kick ass. Seriously.

Because I was knocked on my ass for the better part of a week, I might have a hard time finishing this Friday’s behind-the-scenes comic. I’m going to try my best, but there’s a definite possibility that we’ll be skipping a week. If we do, I’ll make up for the difference over Thanksgiving, which I had planned to schedule off. Fair enough?

Finally, MOCer extraordinaire Yatkuu featured yours truly in this hilarious, and informative series. Check it out.

About this Episode:
I don’t know how I missed the collapsed ladder until after I had shot, edited, and posted this episode, but I did.

Zombie Cliché Lookout:
There is no surer way of messing up the group dynamic than putting personal issues before the safety of your group, especially when the group is at a crisis point. Of course, “The Breaking of the Fellowship” is also a classic part of many adventure tales. It helps to break up the narrative, allows the characters to explore different interactions as well as fracturing the narrative into multiple independent paths.

  1. Where is doing and what is he going? o_O

    • Isn’t it obvious? He could be…

-Going mental (he’s half there already)
-Checking to see what that large camera equipment backstage was doing
-Relieving himself (I haven’t seen a toilet anywhere in the comic)

      • I like to believe he’s checking out that broad white expanse to the left of the set.

        • He’s probably noticed Dave sitting in front of it staring down at him, and will probably have some awkward questions for him! 😀

  2. Now what could possibly be so important he needs to take care of it right this minute? 😀

I’m thinking Murphy will get taken out of the picture by a zombie, or at the very least get bitten by one and become infected! 😀

    • We’ll see.

  3. I also didn’t notice the collapsed ladder until I took a really hard look around to find it. It seems as if once placed in a scene, our minds automatically expect things in that scene to not change, and when they do it can be hard for some people to find those changes.

On the other hand I can easily play ‘spot the difference’ images and can spot most of the changes after half an hour or so. 😀

Maybe Dave could do a LEGO ‘spot the differences’ comic some day! 😀

    • Hah. Your brain does have a habit of filling in the missing pieces for you, which makes things pretty nice.

  4. Ah, so now we see what Murphy was talking about (to himself) a while back!

P.S. Broken ladder? What broken ladder? (looks at comic) Oh, that broken ladder!

    • Aha! Someone remembered that little scene from a few months back! Might be important here.

      • Ah interesting

        • (Spoilers) He’s just going to turn in his paperwork. He’ll be right back.

        • Paperwork…even minifigs are ruled by it.

        • And that’s when Bricks of the Dead takes a sudden turn from a zombie comic, to a comic about everyday like in an office building. Fun will be had by no one.

        • Until he finds out all his coworkers turned into zeds and are now chasing after him to have a bite out of him! 😀

        • Haha Dave, it’s starting to sound like Zombie Outbrick in reverse!

  5. You should hire a script supervisor…
Thanks for posting the link to my little Chemistry experiment!

    • He or she would have to work for nothing. Basically an intern… man, an intern would be cool.

      • 🙁

        • You know, in additional to my ads and promotions guy.

        • yay!

      • it is said that script supervisors are mostly women… I wonder why btw… so all you need to do hire a young graduate who would be willing to start off her career working for nothing on a pretty much insane project with a zombie infested crew… mmh… I’m sure they’ll line up in front of your doorstep in no time.

        • Perhaps due to attention to detail

          …….

          Since they can’t multi-task

      • Shouldn’t Kramer’s intern Kenny be getting out of jail soon? If he was gullible enough to intern for Kramer…

        • He was pretty dedicated to Kramerica, but a decade or two in prison probably changed that.

  6. If I was Murphy, I’d be checking the dead bodies for ammo and anything else that could be useful.

    • Great video game move. Smart thinking.

      • Damn straight. Murphy should pay heed.

  7. Hey Dave, I think I just found you a good “zombie-themed” creation by one of the forum members of BrickWarriors. Here’s the link: http://www.brickwarriors.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=298

    • They’re pretty cool, but unless I’m missing something, they’re just custom minifigs. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but not really what I tend to feature.

      • Yeah, I see. By the way you’re doing a really good job of keeping us on edge of where Sam is.

        • Hah, yeah.

Don’t worry, we’ll be finding out about Sam soon. Not, like this or next week soon, but soon.

  8. Where’s the schedule?

    • Got rid of it because I didn’t like the way it looked. Schedule is as follows:

      Monday – New Comic
      Tuesday – New Review
      Wednesday – New Comic
Thursday – Zombie Creation of the Week
Friday – New Bonus Features Comic

      • Here is my schedule

        Monday morning – Panic

        • cool. Thaks. My panic day is before, during, and after test day. Then I have my cake day.

  9. first time posting here, just wanted to say how much I’m loving the story, the set design, the photography……….hell……everything about this comic.

A big HELLO from a rather dreich Scotland 🙂

    • Hey, thanks Dexscotland! I always love hearing that people are enjoying the strip.

  10. Nice episode Dave!

Uh-oh, looks like Murphy is trying to do something by himself… That’s never good in a group like this. If it doesn’t get him killed, it will build up tension and distrust from the other group members because of his being so secretive. (Which may end up getting him killed anyway, in the long run.)

He should’ve used the buddy system!
