Episode 150

Bricks of the Dead News:
You know how a lot of you have been asking for more frequent updates? Well I listened (kind of). Check back Friday for details. Oh, and the Zombie Creation of the Week will be moving to Thursdays for a little while.

About this Episode:
For the sake of drama, let’s assume her smile in the forth panel is a sort of awkward reaction to the tragedy, not joy.

Zombie Clichรฉ Lookout:
No two zombie stories (unless they’re set in the same universe, but even then there can be some variance) play by the same rules. That’s why it’s so important to take the time at some point in your story to lay the cards on the table so that the audience – and maybe the characters – can understand how things work. Generally this happens when someone in the know (often a cop, soldier, doctor, or nurse) has to explain to other characters how their friend is just completely screwed.

You know, you can never really feel sorry for the bitten unless it happens to you. You can’t understand the desperation to stop or at least slow down the zombification process. Before getting bitten, Jeff probably saw zombies as just a bunch of monsters.
And this is off topic, but in your story, have you decided if anybody is immune to the infection or if everybody can be zombified if bitten?

Nekrospike

No but “The Media Cows” have done some very nice gameplay/ commentary

Nekrospike

Yes but The Media Cows one is funny and at the beginning Zack is talking about how Media Cows is going to help other users…

Dave

Very good points.

I have indeed decided, but I’m not sure if/how it’ll get into the story. There’s no immunity. You get bitten, you’re screwed.

If one of these zombies bit a robot, what would happen to it? I’m pretty sure there aren’t many zombie flicks with robots in them! ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s a pity there aren’t a lot of robot-like zombie heads out there or Dave could find out! ๐Ÿ˜€

Reply
Dave

I don’t think much of anything would happen to a robot. A person with a bunch of crazy tech implants, on the other hand, would be an interesting concept to explore.

Digihuman

I’m just waiting for Jeff to turn so she can get to … “murder”…him? Actually, what is the term for “killing” a zombie? “Re-murder”? “Kill again”? “obliterate the brain”?

Also, Dave, I’m making this Mockazine (mock magazine) known as Ye Olde Brick which I was going to upload to dA and I was wondering if it’s okay for you to be featured – with “quotes” – in one of the articles, as a former director of a recently released film. (former because the film had a major overhaul during filming, where the actors and director were replaced).

I’m guessing you’re using a different email here versus what you setup in Gravatar? That’s generally the only reason why they don’t work.

WJS

RE term for killing a zombie: in the case of post-mortem reanimated zombies, I would probably just go with ‘kill’. Murder is only for people, and post-mortem zombies definitely don’t qualify any more.
In the case of zombies that are still living, it’s a bit stickier, since the possibility of a cure is still there, assuming the virus or whatever doesn’t cause permanent brain damage. I’d probably go with ‘put down’, if you really need an alternative to ‘kill’.

She forgot to mention that you could do the humane thing and put your friend out of their misery before they turn into a life-devouring zombie! ๐Ÿ™‚

I wonder when the other party will meet up with the party from the TV station?

Reply
Dave

I wonder how painful the zombie infection is. I mean, would you want to kill euthanized, or would you want to hang on as long as possible?

Reply
BrickVoid

It’d be interesting to know if Jeff there will straight out ask for someone in his group to kill him once he comes to terms with what’s happening to him. ๐Ÿ˜‰ As for the euthanized thing or hanging on, it depends, is there any kind of indication as to when the person that gets bitten would turn into a zombie? If a person would turn quickly, rather than slowly, it really would make a difference as to whether they’d consider something painful or painless.

It’d also be interesting to find out if the nurse knows of anyone else with medical qualifications who survived from the hospital. It’d certainly be interesting to see the autopsy results from one of these dead zombie corpses! ๐Ÿ˜€

Reply
Dave

Well I can say that in BotD, the bite causes you to get sick and die. Once you die, then you reanimate. A healthy person can take quite a while to die (even longer than the nurse’s “hours” in some cases). Once dead, reanimation happens within a few minutes.

BrickVoid

Unless you’re some poor live guy getting chomped on like a former policeman the nurse knew a while back. ๐Ÿ˜€

Silver Fox

I suspect that sideways awkward smile over the situation is Barb pondering if she should be quick with the shovel and off Jeff now.

Reply
BrickVoid

All bets are off if Jeff actually turns into a zombie and starts trying to eat members of his group. I suspect that nurse will get a thump or two in at least! ๐Ÿ˜€

I love the fact that “Barb” says “Your friend is as good as dead” with a smirk on her face… kinda like, “You’re screwed! Loser!”

Reply
A Monkey

I was just pointing out how it could be taken, I know what you meant. Actually, “Barb” is my least favorite character, as of now.

Dave we can all agree everybody in this comic are lovers not a fighter.( yes red vs blue quote ย for episode 150 YES YES YES) Well time to play dead island

Reply
the dude person

Actually, “I’m a lover not a figher” is a popular Michael Jackson quote (it’s in “The Girl is Mine”). Before that, it was the title of a song from 1966.

I think it’s a little bit deeper than just a “Red vs Blue quote.”

Hah!

If I had been eating a Kashi bar when I read that, I would no longer be here to leave this comment.

I definitely think the chainsaw should be used… I never liked that nurse anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dave

You know, with me showing the damn thing in almost every frame, it’s never actually going to get used, especially not “on camera”, so to speak.

Dave

Barbara is one of the main characters in Night of the Living Dead. Her brother teased her at the beginning of the film – in the graveyard where they see the first zombie – saying “They’re coming to get you Barbara”.

Nikolai

How didn’t I get that?! I love the original Night of the Living Dead. The Zeds remind me of RDD zombies. That one naked zombie cracks me up every time…

the dude person

Isn’t that “Reanimation Deficit Disorder?” When zombies have short reanimation-spans, and can’t stay focused on anything for very long without pills?

Dave

@ TheDudePerson – Now that’s a fantastic guess right there!

@Nikolai – Ah yes, RDR. I’ve been playing the bejesus out of that in my limited free time lately. Love that game.

Nikolai

RDR is quite fun. I just wish that could get some more era-appropriate items. The M1911 .45, Ford Model T, etc.

Dave

Well that game is set in 1911, long after the golden days of the west (think Pekinpaw’s Wild Bunch). I think the gun that resembled the 1911 is actually an earlier model, but I’m not positive. The Model T originally came out in 1908, so that’s plausible as well.

There are some weird guns in the game though, like the Broomhandle Mauser, which I don’t think would have been commonly available in the US at the time. But, since it’s such a cool gun, I never complained ๐Ÿ™‚

Nikolai

The C96 would have been invented back then, which is cool. As for availability, It would have been nearly impossible to obtain, seeing as we wouldn’t have brought it over from WWI, and Germans weren’t coming over yet.

Dave

Well the game was set in 1911, and World War I didn’t start until 1914. Conceivable? Yes, but very unlikely.

zombiemutts

I need to get that but I have the new fallout and assassins creed sitting there collecting dust with all the expansion packs or whatever you call them. DLEโ€™s? Just got stupid busy and the last thing I have time for is video games sadly. I should probably buy my ps3 some flowers or something. I miss her.

Dave

I’ve avoided the new Fallout because the old one robbed months of my life. God I loved that game.

zombiemutts

Yeah its perfect. In 3 I was the most vile evil creature possible and it was glorious. You can’t murder your way through Vegas exactly like you could 3 but its still amazing in other ways. I am terribly stuck tho…I need to play it again.

Nekrospike

Or even “GOOD AS UN-DEAD!”
You really work on how conversations would work…notice how she doesn’t talk directly to Jeff.
Loving these man, most authentic and realistic zombie webcomic out there ๐Ÿ˜€

Dave

See I was thinking he was paying my a compliment, but now I’m wondering if he was being sarcastic. Thanks Nikolai!

Reply
Nekrospike

No I seriously am complimenting, I’m loving these…I had a bad day and this has cheered me up ๐Ÿ™‚

the dude person

Aw man, I was hoping we’d see some zombie action in Episode 150… Well, at least we know it’s coming soon!

That’s almost good news about the increased number of updates… Except that we may now be competing for readers on Fridays as well, if there’s anyone who reads both BotD and ZO, and has very limited free time…

Ah, who cares! More Bricks of the Dead is always good! Very good indeed, now maybe we’ll get back to the main characters quicker! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Congratulations on your 150th episode Dave, that’s quite an achievement! (especially when Bricks of the Dead has been great every episode since the beginning!)

Here’s to another 150, and more! ๐Ÿ™‚

zombies! :)

Weird cuz I put the comment up and when I put it up it was about 6:55. And when it finished loading the page again your comment was there saying it was 4:44

Reply
Dave

Hah, I think there’s plenty of LEGO/Zombie loves for both of us. But I didn’t exactly say I was expanding BotD to Fridays either…

Oh, and thank you very much for your kind words.

I’ve read all the comments and I think it’s safe to say Jeffs dead look at jeff in panels 1-4 he’s dead in panel one sits during panels 2,3,4. Or he had a heart attack. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh and the nurse has barbs name from night of the living dead. And she works at a hospital like the first outbreak of the infection.( where most people turned at first)

You do understand the concept of time zones, don’t you? You seem to be in a time zone an hour behind that of the site. Where you are, it was 4:33, but according to the site, it was 5:33. (Ok, 5:34, but it took you a few more seconds of typing before you could hit “submit comment,” and I’m betting that’s why.)

And my response is also: “what?”

What sort of M1 Carbine is this you’re working on, Nikolai? What’s MMA?

Reply
Dave

“Fucking time zones, how do they work?”

To be honest, I’m not even sure what server time is set to on BotD. I guess I’ll find out when I post this.

Edit: Huh, Eastern, apparently. Well that’s convenient.

Edit Edit: Oh, and I’m also intrigued about this M1. Do tell.

Tyzan8

Ha ha ha….insanely funny Zombiemutts I love this site! Also Nikolai did you know you have the same name as The russian charecter in nazi zombies and the russian informant from the Modern warfare series.I wish I had a name of a zombie charecter maybe I’ll change my name to Dempsey…(Kidding jeez don’t you know me?)
