Zombie Cliché Lookout:
When things get bad, they don’t generally start going to hell quickly. There’s always a bit of a preamble to the inevitable death and destruction. Of course, once the ball starts rolling, the action tends to pick up a head of steam pretty quickly. Characters caught in the middle might find the walls closing in on them faster than they can react, which tends to cause them to further exacerbate the situation by making poor decisions.

  1. Somehow, I figured that doctor had it coming to him! 😀 I really liked him though, wonder if he’ll pull through this or not? 😉

    • I found myself liking the good doctor as well.

  2. Your the Nurse

    • Eh?

    • Dave, I think he’s trying to say that you care about doctors, are very feminine, and are not one to take action when action is needed.

Oh, and he’s also saying that your legs are backwards.

At least that’s how it comes across to ME. 🙂

      • Hah, yikes.

He is right though, I do care about health care workers. Especially nurses. That’s an incredibly demanding job and the people who do it are often underappreciated.

  3. Lol for a moment there I thought the nurse shoved the doc :L

    • Well that would have been rude!

  4. What does that mean?… No, what does “exacerbate” mean? 😉

I feel sorry for that poor zombie. One moment, he’s just trying to grab a quick snack, but then instead gets shot several times, and is now getting pushed around a lot. Talk about a rough first day!

    • Exacerbate:
      1. to aggravate
      2. to exasperate, annoy, irritate.
      -Webster’s New World Dictionary

In other words, to exacerbate something means to generally make it worse.

      • Yes, I know what it means, but I was quoting a movie. 🙂

      • @Darg
That’s from Shaun of the Dead. if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out. The “exacerbate” thing come back in a wonderful line later in the film.

  5. So now the question is how quickly will the doctor turn? and will it be consistent for all would-be zombies?

    • That’s always something I find interesting in movies, because they are never consistent. Zombies tend to reanimate whenever the plot calls for it.

  6. I don’t see this going well. If the nurse does somehow escape, any authority will think she’s lost her mind, minding only the state they believe the nurse is in, and not the zombies about to take the town. Doesn’t sound good…

    • There’s just something about hysterical people screaming about people rising from the dead and attacking the living that doesn’t give them a lot of cachet with the authorities. It’s weird.

      • What if there was a group thinking or believing it’s the dead rising but going in prepared to take out only vampires?

      • Now that sounds like a great premise for a short film right there.

    • Nice one, thanks!

      • That’s pretty good, perhaps you should contact the maker of the video and see if you can get a stop-motion flick of your own going from hints and tips they might be willing to share! It’d certainly be interesting! 😉

  8. Wow. That Nurse was so shocked her legs just flipped around! Teehee.

  9. One thing I don’t get, is where is everybody? Hospitals are incredibly busy places, and even though they can be pretty noisy because of that, you would expect that people would hear gunshots and screaming.
What I would expect to see at this point would be someone calling the cops, who would be able to control things given how there are only a couple of zombies so far Actually only one, the others haven’t risen yet.
This isn’t really criticising your storytelling though, since I don’t think I’ve ever seen a convincing explanation of how you could go from one zombie to thousands, all the other stories I’ve seen either ignore the question entirely, or present answers even flimsier than this. It’s the kind of thing I think you have to just accept. At least it’s not as bad as the military being swept aside.
