Zombie Creation of the Week: Radiation Leak

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Friday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

This week’s creation, “Radiation Leak” by BrutesBrick, features a couple workers in Hazmat suits dealing with a toxic spill and the resultant zombies. One thing that I really like about this creation is the way the workers are focusing entirely on the spill while several zombies creep up on them in the background. It tells and interesting story without getting overly violent.

Yeah, this looks bad.

People + Radiation = Zombies. Fact.

The zombie supervisior. You can tell by the neatly pressed suit.

There are a lot more photos on Flickr, so be sure to check them out (along with the rest of BrutesBrick’s stuff).

This build has some good things to point out for those of you who are interested in having your work featured here. First of all, take numerous photos. One picture of a creation is never enough. Explore different angles, both wide and close. Second, make sure your photography is as good as you can make it. Bad photography can make a great creation look mearly good. Third, tell a story. You can imply a lot with simple minifig placement as “Radiation Leak” proves.

Have you seen a great zombie-related creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.

And don’t forget: ZombieMutts and I are hosting a contest. You’re basically building a zombie creation of some sort to try to win a custom zombie and a hazmat figure. Check out the full rules here.

  1. The zombies don’t look so much zombies as.. Very very Annoyed Small Green Giants that have had a bad day at work.

    • Hah

    • hah! Love this MOC ….very well done.

What sells it is the second frame with the fellow looking over his shoulder.

This one put me in the mood to do some MOCS myself. Now that my Grand Emporium build has been ground to a halt since I am missing an entire bag maybe I need to use the time and get some MOCS done myself this weekend. I have six sets in boxes to build but I don’t want to start anything new until GE is done. Hello OCD!

      • and some writing, Dave….

        • Definitely some writing.

Have you contacted TLG about your missing parts/bag?

        • Yeah but I don’t know the inventory yet so I need them to recognize the bag I need. Shouldn’t be too hard…its a #3 bag and it had 19 small windows.

        • What a pain. I’ve heard they are really good about follow-up and ship out parts no questions asked.

          Edited to fix embarassing typo

        • I hope so. All they need to do is look at my lego card to see I am legit. Oh well. They say they weigh each box but as my gal stated last night, “you still have to have an employee paying attention to do something about it.”

Time to do some MOCS anyway like our good man BrutesBrick has done.

        • Oh yeah, mistakes happen. So long as company’s strive to rectify them, all is good.

Definitely time to do some MOCs.

        • Called them.. nice customer service rep…problem halfway solved. I just need to check on a few pieces, reply to an email and it will ship right away.

Seems the Grand Emporium had a production group that were missing a bag. So I am not insane.

          No hassle no fuss

        • And yet another reason to love LEGO.

        • Dave, in your second comment from top in this level of comments, I think you meant to say “ship out of parts”, not what you have written there! 😀

        • Agree with BH

          definitely bad service IMO

        • *BV

        • In case this post shows up in a google search for someone who is also missing parts from a LEGO large set I want to complete this story as I cannot stand unresolved issues posted on websites when I need something myself that is a similar issue…

Lego sent me my missing parts today. They not only sent me what I had missing but they sent me extras. Since my set matches a production number of Grand Emporium that is known to be missing a bag it looks like they not only sent me my missing parts but the contents of the missing bag as well even tho I don’t need it. They made up for their mistake big time. The package they sent me has enough Legos to fill one of those large bags you get in the mail from lego (about the size of a gallon freezer bag) and it is bursting at the seams to they had to send me another small bag that is half way full. So the entire issue took 18 days from phone call to my mail box. I am very happy.

        • God do I love good customer service. I’ve never had issues with missing/broken parts from LEGO, but I’ve always been confident that they stand by their product and make things right. I love reading stories like this.

        • It might be the best customer service I have ever received and its so over the top I almost feel guilty I got so much in the mail.

  2. I know this doesn’t go here but I finished playing Dark Messiah Might and Magic yesterday, I enjoyed it, it was a fresh fast moving experience with a-lot of magic and sword play. By accident in the beginning I had put it on hard so I had played through the game raging at the system.

In the end, even though it had caused me anger and trouble I could not help but feel how fun it was. There was never a dull moment, even when I was hoping that nothing would pop out for once. I never had a spare potion and I had to utilize everything I had on me (Assasinating with my Bow, Finding spots in the roof to hide and kill from a distance, dodge and strife around my enemies to avoid getting hit) and that’s what most definetly made that game fun. The most satisfying thing about the game was that every once in awhile after a power attack I would get an awesome instant kill that either involved me decapitating them or gutting them like a fish.

My own problem with the game is its length. It did last me a day, and I did do pretty much a straight play through. At times it made me jump and my heart run, but in the end it did not continue. I don’t know why I thought this, but I felt that it was a bit to short. After waiting for the credits to go by. Hoping that it was a Fable trick, It ended at a black screen of angst and wait. Like a fool I waited and waited for it to go to some sort of beginning with all my new skills, but it never did. This made me sad and some what curious, so I decided to begin searching if there was suppose to be something at the end of it…. There wasn’t.

My point is, no game should end at a black screen. It should always go to something, its a rather cruel thing to do… That is all.

Oh and there was zombies in the game… Yeah.. A-lot of decapitation and stabbing whilst on the ground for me.. And the occasional kick the zombie off the ledge into an unending abyss of souls. The usual.

    • ^ Sorry about that Dave, needed to get that out of my system. I’ve been on a wanna game fringe. Swords, bows, and magic seems to be my care at the moment.

      • No worries. Now people know Dark Messiah is a badass game. Public service.

      • Calicade I am the biggest violator of derailing topics on this site so don’t feel too bad. hah

  3. Hah, that’s cool. I had just been considering using a collectable minifig Frankenstein face as one of my zombies, oddly enough.

  4. what about the goblin heads from the castle sets?

    • They have really pronounced teeth. Don’t look like zeds to me. Which is a shame, because otherwise they’re quite cool.

      • Tis extreme redneck zombies.

  5. I know this doesn’t belong here, but I’m almost done with my contest entry. One more Internet order and it’ll be done.

    • cool. whats your entry?

      • It’s surprise.

    • Outstanding!

  6. Looks like I lost a paragraph of content there. Restored now.
