Zombie Creation of the Week: Metro Station

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Friday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

This week’s creation, “Metro Station” by One Big Smile, features a zombie attack in a creepy, underlit subway station. Lot’s of fantastic detailwork here, including the light on the crashed subway car, the cool artwork on the walls, the bulletholes, and even a damaged clock dangling from an electrical wire. You really get a sense of action in this shot. I don’t know if it’s just my imagination filling in the blanks, but the (admittedly well armed) survivors appear to be in rough shape as I would guess that the onslaught of zombies is only just beginning.

Zombie attack in the metro station

Since the main image is quite moodily lit, here are a couple nice detail shots in full light:

The subway crash is most like related to the zombie apocalypse.

Subterranian zombies!

I don’t have a lot in the way of criticism on this one. The skeleton leg thing on the bearded zombie, which seems really popular these days, just doesn’t quite work for me. I don’t know, maybe I’m just getting bored of it. There’s also some color differences on the wall, but given this is a dingy subway station, I’d say that’s probably pretty realistic.

Have you seen a great zombie-related creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.

  1. They have MP40’s it would seem, lucky find. Its a nicely done picture.. One place I wouldn’t go is underground.. To.. Inhibiting.

    • I wouldn’t be too keen about going underground either. That’s something they always seem to do in the movies for some reason.

  2. Absolutely fantastic. Well done! The holes in the wall and the clock hanging from the wire are what truly sells this to me.

    • I think the clock hanging from the wire is my favorite part of this whole build. That’s just an awesome detail right there.

  3. I agree with calicade. Subways are a no no. But cool effects. I like the train car. The window was done very well done. The guns could have been better though. I can make a clone trooper’s pistol look like an MP5. Just get the pistol and put a wrench piece on the barrel. Looks really cool. And I think the skeleton leg is cool because it says that he turned by having his leg bitten. But is does look weird. Out of place. Unnatural. It would look Better if they put some red silly putty on it. I have a lego castle set with the goblins and if you put the silly putty on the than they look like zombies.

    • I don’t know why the trend bugs me. I’m kick of stuck on how useless a skeletal leg would be without the fascia and musculature, and then I remind myself just how damn much I’m over-thinking this.

    • “Subways are a no no”

Totally agree but it could possibly be a situation worth risking as you can travel great distances safely once in a cleared train compartment assuming you have power of course. Highways and interstate will be too dangerous over long stretches.

As for the bones…I agree but I do like skeleton heads as they represent pale zeds.

      • Skeleton heads aren’t bad. They’re not something I tend to use, but I don’t mind when I see them elsewhere.

Apropos of nothing, this is the 3,000th comment. Yay.

  4. Thanks for all the constructive critisism and kind words guys! I built this for a metro apocalypse themed contest.
I’m definitely going to try and build a more realistic zombie leg soon…. 🙂

    • Good luck in the contest; the other entries are going to have to be pretty incredible to beat this!
