There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Friday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

This week’s creation, “Zombie Ambush” by Cam M., is a combination of a nice build, good staging, and fantastic presentation. Make no mistake, I’d be blogging about “Zombie Ambush” without the extra trappings, but they way it’s presented as an actual LEGO® set is just fantastic. Seriously, if that showed up at Target who wouldn’t buy it?

Zombie Ambush official set

The build itself is really nice. I like how everything uses official pieces instead of throwing in Brickarms and the like – I loves me some Brickarms, but they would look completely out of place here. The truck is a great Mad-Maxian build, the telephone pole is outstanding, and the catapult with the turkey leg on it makes me laugh.

As far as the packaging goes, I really like the muted browns and grays used here, and I love the fact that this appears to be part of a bigger series (Earth 2057). Add in the zombie face and the funny set number and I’m completely sold.

My only criticisms are pretty minor. I wish this set featured yellow figs, since all non-licensed sets do. I also wish the zombie looked more like a zombie instead of looking like a mummy, especially since an image of one appears on the box. Of course I realize that zombie parts are often difficult to come by, so this is pretty understandable.

Regardless, this is a great build all the way around.

Have you seen a great zombie-related creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.

  1. Yeah I always find myself obsessing over what zombies someone uses. Obvious non zombies and using too many series 1 Zombie always make me deduct points. But yeah….I am really digging this box and the car is outstanding. Perfect size and while they look cool large semi’s that someone turned into a war machine never make sense to me. They need to be small and no larger than an RV in my opinion.

Has to disagree with you on the brickarms comment tho, Dave. I think they would have been an outstanding addition to this.

    • You’re absolutely right, the semis and other large vehicles can certainly look cool, but they’d be totally impractical unless you were part of some big convoy.

Like I said, I dig Brickarms and think they’d be cool if they was just a regular old MOC. Since it’s aping an official set, I think they’d be out of place. Different strokes, right?

      • “Like I said, I dig Brickarms and think they’d be cool if they was just a regular old MOC. Since it’s aping an official set, I think they’d be out of place. ”

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes. Good point and from that angle I completely agree.

  2. One thing they didn’t include was the number of pieces

    • Good call. That would have been a nice touch.

  3. if this were a real lego set i would buy 2500 of them!!!!!!!but i probably can’t afford 2500 of them so i would definetly buy this series if it were real!(did ya hear me lego THE PEOPLE WANT ZOMBIES!!!!)

    • do you not have any of the series 1 zombies, tyzan8?

      • i don’t have any sseries one they ran out everywhere i was wlling to go….even the first day they were supposed to be the lego store i drove too (not i drove my mom did) they were out!

        • They were hard to come by. I only got a few and that was thanks to Lich Barrister of Ye Olde Lego-Time Theater finding them for me. I wish they’d do another run (or better yet, a totally new zombie design).

        • What Dave….you’re not satisfied with the confusing combination of a “special needs” looking zombie carrying a chicken leg & shovel? sheesh…some people are never happy…. but yeah…if they do another run of something new I’ll grab a lot.

Keep your hopes up tyzan8….you never know when you may come across one. I guess I didn’t realize as I was doing my ordering that so many people missed the first wave. Makes sense why they cost so much.

          hmmmmmmmmm……..

Hey Dave….I’ll add one of those to that thing we talked about.

        • The choice of accessories was just bizarre. Why not give them the bone the wolfman came with?

Re: that thing we talked about – fantastic!

        • ok maybe i need to correct myself.
          “THE PEOPLE WANT MORE ZOMBIES!!!!”
          i think that’s better.

  4. Wow, thanks for a great review. This was made for a build a LEGO set contest, so that’s why I made the box art. And about the part count; I didn’t want to take the entire model apart and count all the pieces just to put it on the box.

    • Hey, thanks for the great MOC. Sounds like a cool contest; the box art really sells this one for me.

  5. … Just got an awesome idea for my campaign. I must thank you Cam M. for your mummy zombie odd thingy..

  6. ooo i just thought of something maybe “earth” is a movie from the future and it is a liscensed theme!

  7. Dave are you also an admin on LZA on facebook? They always re-link everything you put up.

    • No, I’m sure not. I guess they just like me stuff.
