Zombie Creation of the Week: “Home”

There’s a lot of zombie stuff out there, and most of it is crap. People like to jump on bandwagons and produce quick tie-ins rather than investing love and effort into their creations. Luckily for you, I’m here to help separate the wheat from the chaff. Check back every Friday, when I’m going to share the coolest zombie-related creation I can find out there on the web.

In the interest of diversifying a little, I’m doing something a little different this week. This creation, with all it’s zombie goodness, doesn’t use any LEGO® whatsoever. Instead, it’s a short film staring actual, human actors. The video, called “HOME”, is really well done and covers something a lot of zombie stuff neglects: the psychological aspect of surviving when your family doesn’t. Check it out:

There’s a lot I like about this video, but my favorite aspect is that complete lack of dialog. Instead, the film relies on music and visual to create tension and tug at the heartstrings.  It also strikes a good story to zombie mayhem balance, with the bulk of the video taken up by the former. The only part I’m not sure about are the parts of the film shot in color. It just seems a little on the nose.

So what do you guys think of featuring some non-LEGO® creations? It seems to me that there’s a lot of cool zombie stuff out there, and it’d be a shame to miss out on it just because it’s not made out of colorful plastic bricks. Of course if everyone’s opposed, I’ll just call this a failed experiment and we’ll go back to brick-built stuff every Friday.

Have you seen a great zombie-related creation out on the web? Are you working on the next great zombie MOC as we speak? Well you had better let us know right away, otherwise we’ll never be able to include it here.

  1. Could only imagine how much that would hurt, but in the end only the strong of will, will survive. I already have it planned out how I would kill family if I was in a zombie apocalypse and had to… To be honest I don’t even plan on trying to hole up with them or anything I want to go out and adventure. So if I ever found them it would be quick, I wouldn’t see them as family any more though. Only corpses, and well corpses mean nothing to me.

    • Very pragmatic. I doubt it would be that easy for me.

What do you think of a non-LEGO creation being featured?

      • It was great, there are many different videos on you tube that are about zombies but its hard to find something good. The Bite me series by people in Machinama is good but goofy. I would like to see some more Non-Lego zombie related things actually, Mix it up more often because like with this you had good taste. And I would love if you could do films/Had the patience because I would watch them (As well had the people and actors its hard to get people together that are good enough to act it out and have the skill to. As well as editing, wooohwee) But keep it coming! Maybe even through in a person game review opinion or two would love to know what you think of Fallout,l4d,l4d2 if you ever played them or what have you just to see your personal opinion!

      • Though a problem with films is that they take so long to put together! So I’m kind of glad as well you pick legos as your medium. Can be very creative with those little yellow headed fellas.

      • I actually tried to make a short zombie movie on two occasions. The first time, in high school, was just a bunch of dumb kids trying to make a movie with a borrowed camcorder and no real idea of what to do.

My second attempt was a few years ago. We had an actual script, people to fill every roll, and a place to shoot. It was still pretty much a disaster.

  2. I like the idea of non-lego creations. Maybe like gt some friends, makeup, weapons, and a camcorder and you could make an ok film.
